Alright guys, I've been lurking the forums for months now, it's time to start my 2010 outdoor log!
I'll be doing 40 plants outside. Half will be in 5 gallon buckets, half will be planted straight into ground. I'm starting all of them in jiffy pots with Fox Farm soils. The ones to planted into buckets have a mix of 1 part fine perlite 4 parts FFOF. The ones to be planted into ground are in 3 in jiffy pots with the same mix of FFOF and perlite, and were then set inside a larger jiffy pot with a mix of the ocean forest and FF's outdoor soil. My reasoning for this is to acclimate the plants more slowly into the mixture of the Pacific clay soil im dealing with which will be amended with some FFOF and probably some happy frog ferts. I'll be watering and foilar feeding with Grow Big. Any recommendations on nutes??

Strains: Like the headline says, I'm doing P Kush(13), Cheese(6), Blackberry(10), and Casey Jones(10). I've also got a Blue Dream Teenager that I started indoor about 2 mos ago. It's really been through some shit: It was started under t5 fluoro and was blowing up pretty well. Unfortunately, the spot that I was growing at was no longer suitable for indoor growing, so I had to bonsai it (had already started LST) and make it look like it was a part of my regular outdoor garden. I cut all but the middle fan leaves, and trimmed some bottom branching. I also took the oppertunity to experiment and top it. I didn't expect it to make it with the harsh SF winds, the pruning, and the wet weather we'd been having...but it pulled through and had been living on my roof (through some pretty heavy storms). Well folks, the fan leaves came back, and the stalk is a monster for the height of this plant which had been stunted for a while form the stress. I'm confident that this BD will absolutely KILL outside. You can see the nute deficiencies on the BD fan leaves that were there when it was pruned. All new growth is healthy.

Alright, so we'll be doing the soil prep today; clearing weeds, tilling and mixing soil amendment today and putting the outdoor crop in the ground. I'll try and get some shots of our garden, and some strains individually. I can already see some champions edging their way to the front of the pack.

Outdoor prep is going well, but taking longer than expected. We're hoe'in and pick axing by hand and it is BACK BREAKING, but it's a labor of love and totally worth it. The ground will definitely be cleared by this saturday and I've got a few questions about soil mixture. My original plan was this: supplement with FF outdoor mix and Happy frog nutes, then till into existing soil (we have already turned over most of the soil, so we would just be amending the soil with the goods). I'm still looking for good recommendations on nutrients, or anyone else's favorite mix for outdoors. I ran some test for PKN and PH on the outdoor stuff. Baseline nutrients look really good, soil is slightly acidic, but nothing too extreme. Overall, I'd say I'm working with some pretty good soil.

**UPDATE**
Here are some pics of our grow area, looking pretty cleared out. Still turning it over. Use the red poles as reference for the panoramic.

Last pic is the Blue Dream! it's loving its temporary home in the 5 gallon bucket.:leaf:

Ok, I been talking trash for the past few weeks about geting these guys in the ground. Will absolutely be getting it done over the long weekend w/ some better pics if I can track down a good camera.
The girls going into the ground will be au naturale, but I'm considering doing an outdoor scrog for the ones in buckets. I'll be taking the donations I get at the end of the grow to put down on a good perpetual grow setup using scrog and was hoping I'd get some good practice, and some tighter buds. Let me now what you think.

I've definitely got the will. I've seen a lot of people using chain link fence...would I be better off with chicken fence or some other kind of mesh?

I would think some sort of heavy mesh would work great, although Ive never attempted scrog outdoors, Ive always dug pits, backfilled with promix/ffof, bonemeal, lime and little added perilite and blackgold, works very well. Ive got some blue dreams that look great, four cheese from seed that are already over 4ft tall, also bubba kush, greencrack, big bud, trainwreck, then one big pheno of the church that just had to go outside, already cant wait for this fall. Take Care, Peace!

Field fencing works good and is not too costly but a hungry deer can jump it, check out NEL's outdoor grow, uses soap and mothballs I think to keep the deer away..

Thanks for the well wishes, bro. Still playing with the idea of actually doing it... I'm concerned about the stunted growth that comes with topping. Sounds like your cheese are gonna be some monsters!
I'd like to see how they turn out.

I remember reading somewhere that zest or irish spring works very well, I'll be sure to try it. There is a small family of deer that run around on the property that I'm concerned about... I try and give the area a good golden shower when I'm working up there too haha

Lookin good so far my man, a very promising setup. I couldn't have picked better strains myself! I can't find those Casey Jones clones up here though I may have to make a roadtrip down to the city to visit some well-stocked dispensaries :) Well good luck ill stay tuned!

The deer won't eat the plants until there is nothing else around containing moisture, late fall... Had deer walk all around mine and didn't eat them till all other vegetation was dried up? Doesn't hurt using soap and urine early, just my 2 cents...

So far, I've been very impressed with the strain. I'm definitely gonna be taking cutting from these guys, how many were you looking for?

Still working on getting a better camera. Here's a shot of each strain. I'll get some pics of the whole space this week. Blue Dream, Blackberry, Cheese, Purple Kush, Casey Jones respectively.

I'm pretty sure all my PK are hermied...FML. I'll post some pics for a second opinion, but I think it will just be wishful thinking.

EDIT: maybe not all of them, I'm just being dramatic. W/E I might just replace with some teens...

2nd EDIT: just read about some stuff that dutch masters puts out... REVERSE. It's supposed to stop the development of male flowers. Any comments on this stuff?
Pics are up...from some careful internet trolling the leaves on the pk look like something that was revegged. What could have caused this? Is it the indica traits of the plant that require it have a LOT more than 12 hrs? something that would be better provided indoors?

I sprayed the first application of reverse this past weekend. The purple kush, as of yesterday, look a bit healthier. They look like they grew a bit more vigorously than usual, and are bushier. New growth definitely looks healthier and less mutated. Looks like I'm on the right track with these, I'll update as the situation unfolds. I also started growing 2 more plants from clone out of hempy buckets in my backyard. I can keep a much closer eye on these girls. I started them in 3 gallon buckets filled to maybe 3-4 inches of perlite at the reservoir, and the rest with coco mix. The strains in the hempy buckets are Sour Diesel and Headband. They have been in buckets going on two weeks; a bit slow at first, but both plants finally seem to have taken to the reservoir. The headband looks a little healthier at the moment. Will post pics.

Here are a few shots I took yesterday as the sun was dropping. The first is one of the PK showing improved leaf structure. The ones I have in buckets seem to have been hit a bit harder by the mutated foliage. They have hit a growth spurt, and are sprouting healthier new leaves.

Second picture is of my Blue Dream. Growth has been mainly horizontal from its early days of training. It's easily wider than it is tall, there are multiple sturdy branches (around 4?) that are pushing 3 windy feet, I can just picture the colas on them now...:weed:

Next pic is my hempy grow. There's a shot of my Headband. Already knocking on the 1' club's door, planted from rooted clone (5") maybe 2 weeks ago.

Next 2 shots are some pictures of part of my secret garden.lol. You can see the the large profile on the Casey Jones...There are some hefty 4.5 footers coming along. Some are slightly below 4' and 1-2 are a slightly different pheno with shorter vertical growth but tighter branch structure. Definitely looks like I'm gonna have some 7-9 footers with these girls. Growth is still very explosive.

Stay smokin' my friendsbongsmilie

It's been a while since my last update, but you guys know how it goes. July was a good month for the plants. Lots of solid growth, and half the PK have made a VERY solid recovery... the rest still looks like trash . The PK in buckets are the solid performers, and look like they will yield pretty well. (will post pics of those this weekend). The hempy buckets I started mid/late June in my backyard look awesome for my personal smoke. The larger one is Headband, and the smaller one is Diesel. Hempy with coco is win. Seeing these results, I am most definitely going to be using this method for my indoor crop. There's a shot of 2 of my best Blackberry in there too. They're WIDE AS FUCK. 4.5 feet I'd guess.

These are the teaser shots, I'll get good ones of the whole garden this weekend when I go to feed.
