When I let it get as hot as I dared,
-heatsink 51C, (passive cooling on a CPU cooler) Vf went as low as 38.07.
-thermally stable with heatsink at 37C, I 38.56Vf
-fan running faster, heatsink stable at 33C, 38.68Vf.
-cold start, pulsed at 23C, 39.2Vf

All measurements were at 2.23A. It will be interesting to see if the other Vero is the same. Planning on mounting that one onto a polished heatsink to compare the thermal performance at high dissipation. First I need a driver that can actually give us high dissipation, and since the Vf is higher than expected, that task becomes trickier. Your HLP is looking more and more appealing :) I have a few drivers one the way to experimentwith to see which one can give us the most juice.

..

Both arrays seem to be almost identical ,regarding their efficiency and spectrum,at least .

Hi SDS, I'm mixing up some 3070's and V29's. Looking around I'm confused whether the existing Meanwell LP-60-1400 drivers are under powered to drive the V29's. Although your chart in this post shows it as outputting about 51w @1400ma. Will they drive the V29's ok or should I bump it up? Thanks in advance, just trying to get everything together and V29 @1400ma info seems hard to come by other than the chart you posted. Cheers.

Also, as I was googling, I found this, may be common info to all you techies but hadn't seen it and looks very familiar to the one you're building?

The LPC-60-1400 has a voltage output of up to 42 volts. That is more than adequate for a vero 29.

BTW did you guy's see that meanwell released the LPC-150? $40, 90% efficient, with a lot of output options. 430v@350ma up to 48v@3150ma!

I was just looking over the LPC-150. Main downside is that they are not power factor corrected. No big deal for a small build but I can't imagine why they would skip that circuitry?

Probably just cost reduction, all of the comparable models with PFC are 50%-100% more expensive than the non-PFC version. Doesn't seem to make a huge impact on the efficiency of the driver either.

PFC may actually reduce the efficiency of the driver very slightly, but lacking PFC can cause the driver to draw almost twice as much current. That can be an issue in large builds, in some cases removing the possibility of using 120V circuits.

Large builds should consider a dedicated 240 run anyhow. Most of the drivers get a slight bump in efficiency on a 240 circuit.

What it takes for that fixture to blow both Veros ?

In order for that to happen ,Tj of both Vero 29 must reach close or more than 150°C ..

In order for both Veros to be fried instantly ,several things have to be happening, all at the same time ...

1) Switch position has to be at 12 .Fixture has to be working at max power .

2) Ambient temperature has to be 40°C .More than that ,may plants fry along ...

3 ) Fan has to fail .At passive state that heatsink is rated to have a thermal resistance h-a of .3 K/W .
But because now it is in horizontal fin position - relatively to gravity direction -
and semi-enclosed on a case ...Say a worst case of .7 K/W ..
+233% of nominal thermal resistance at passive vertical state ,fins parallel to gravity direction.


4) Radiant efficiency has to drop at 15% ...
85% of both Vero 29 power dissipation has to become heat ...

I'd say highly unlikely ....
