Is this true? I thought blurples were best for flower because of the large far-red:red ratio=shorter flower stage. They do put out a fair bit of blue light but I've never tried putting seedlings under a blurple to see if they stretch a lot (stretching = low blue:red ratio? is this true? read it online but so much is bubkus.)
Its not so much the spectrum, its the claims most of them make. Like the title 1000w grow light is misleading when its only a 234w light. Lots of them will say something like 1000w growlight , 234w as powerful as a 600w, covers a 2.5x2.5ft area in flower.
So it depends on which part of the add the buyer wants to believe, many want to believe the bit that says will replace a 600w hps and ignore the bit that says covers a 2.5x2.5ft space.
So they end up with a light that vegges well but when they flip to flower they just don't have enough power..
Yes im generalising here, but we see this happen week after week on here.
Blurples can grow weed just fine as long as the user has enough light.
As far as what spectrum is best regardless of a few studies its still not 100% known, many have shown that quantity outperforms quality (of spectrum) which is why white light is more popular , because they are capable of been far more efficient and sheer quantity of light performs very well. Its not perfect, which is why people are constantly tweaking that base spectrum.
But its been shown that a 135w white board style light will literally smash a cheap 135w blurple panel to pieces in terms of end produce.
