i have a 2 gallon bucket hydroponics set up, and i have the water in the bucket a little bit passed the longest root, can this cause my roots to rot? or should i even add more water?

Roots sitting in still water will suffocate and rot. If you use an air stone to keep the water oxygenated, keep the water cool and the light from reaching it, you'll be fine. Also, NO organic material in the res.

Yeah, what he said.

A good air pump helps a lot, I grow with a dual diapragm air pump and my water is very oxygenated, and my roots are all submerged.

Also keep your ph at around 5.5 to 6.3, and watch your ppms, when your plants are young lower nutrient ppms are called for, as they get older and the roots get stronger they require more nutes. Most new to DWC/bbp over do the nutes and burn the young plants.

It helps to use Hydrogen peroxide (H2o2) to help oxygenate your res, and keeps th bacteria down, and H2o2 is ph neutral, so it won't hurt your levels.
