Hello there guys,

hope somebody will help me out to indentify whats going on....

My plants are showing some signs of yellowing and burning. Dont know if is lack of nutrients or excess. Maybe something else.

First of all, Here is some information of what ive been dong so far:
notes grow.jpg

The problem started week 2, I posted somee pictures here on riu and people said it was nutrient burn + overwatering.

Today is day 26 from sprout.

new growth seems fine to me but your medium looks so dry
thanks for the reply. I watered/feed 2 days ago (0.4 ec). Medium seems to be moist in the middle. I will water tomorrow again. Do you think 0.4 ec is too little for this stage? I was doing Feed, Water, Feed, Water. Do you think I should feed tthem again with nutes tomorrow or just ph water?

Agreed. New growth looks good. You were right to cut the grow nutes in half after a few plain waterings. Let the plant get established a bit more before bumping up again. Next time try starting in a smaller pot, or even a solo cup with some triangles cut out of the bottom for drainage. The smaller pots will allow you to fully saturate the soil, and have it dry out a bit quicker so you don't drown a small plant. By the time she outgrows the cup, you can xplant give it a week to establish roots, then bump up the feed.

Nice job so far. Don't panic, the plants can taste fear

thank you brother!

I did started in smaller pots, plants were looking good and them I fed them with a 0.3 ec. I think they were too young and burn.

week 2

week 3 - Gave them just ph water, no nutes. I think they recovered weel but in week 4 they started to show signs again.

I will give them ph water tomorrow and them feed next time around 0.6 ec. What you think?

Thanks Again

What soil are you growing in? I'll assume your in ocean forest or something similar. If thats the case that soil has enough food for a plant that size where you really wont need much liquid food. And because your using tap water your getting some minerals that way as well. I agree with what was said above that the soil might be getting a little dry too, which you probably did after hearing those overwatering comments. I think your pH has been a little low too consistently, id try to get some 6.5-6.8 pH waters into the mix. Also, make sure you water slow and your water isn't just going down between the side of the pot and the dry soil. Overall I think the soil is just a little off after the feeds, pH, and uneven waterings, even though they were a low EC.
I would mix up 1ml botanicare cal-mag, 1ml diomand nectar, 1ml armor si, and a scoop of great white at a pH of 6.8 and water them good to try to reset the soil environment a little bit and make sure thats on point before you start feeding more heavily. Follow that up with a plain 6.5 pH water a few days later. Then just alternate between those two until the soil runs out of food, which is usually about 3 weeks after transplanting into a new pot of fresh soil depending on pot size. Then start adding your grow food. When that peat dries back a lot it becomes hydrophobic and can take a bit of water to get it wet again. Be careful not to water a dry pot with a solid nutrient mix either because the EC is already spiked in the pot from the dry soil. I would say for that size pot and plants you'll have 2-3 days off between waterings, which from your calendar looks like you are. Again just make sure the soil is getting fully saturated and doesn't dry out too much. Id also let your tap water sit in a bucket with an oxygen stone for a couple days before you use it to evaporate out the chlorine. Hope that helps.

Yeah! It helps a lot friend, thank you for the input. The soil Im using is a 50/50 mix peat and perlite, there is no nutrients in it. Im so happy to see your recomendation on the calmag, diamond nectar, armor si and and great white cause is almost exactly What I have here (the calmag I have is the one from terra aquatica, former GH at europe). Since the soil Im running has no nutrients in it, Im thinking of follow your sugestion and mix 1ml armor si, 1ml calmag, 1 ml diamond nectar, great white + 2ml tripartMicro, 1ml gro, 1ml bloom. This would give around 0.7 ec. Them ph to 6.8 like you also sugested. What you think? Too much?
btw, Im running a diarie on GrowDiaries. I Will keep updating this thread in here too.

Thanks a lot for taking some time to help a fellow grower. I try to read and study a lot about this, but I dont have a lot of grows under my belt . So thank you a lot brother!

Hey, ok good to know about soil, so your in a soiless mix. Cool, I'll have to check out the grow diary. I have another thread on here with some pictures and other advice too. That terra aquaitca seems like decent stuff, but is potent at 16% calcium and 4% magnesium. Botanicare calmag is like 3.2% calcium and like 1.5 magnesium.
Also this line looks very similar to GH NPK, so I'm guessing there is like 5% calcium in the micro and like 1.5 magnesium in the bloom, so prob actually no need for calmag. Check that to make sure. Considering there is no food in the soil id target an EC of .8 -1.0. Might even be able to push that a little depending on environment. Your pH is ok now that i know your not in soil, but try to let your pH fluctuate a little bit between like 6-6.5 to increase uptake of different nutrients, 6.2 is a good though. Terra's feed chart is calling for 6ml/gal grow, 4ml/gal micro, and 2ml/gal bloom. I'd follow that and start at 1/3 those rates with the 1ml si, great white, and 1ml nectar and see what the EC is at. A popular formula with GH is to leave the grow out and do a 1:1 ratio in veg and 2:1 ratio in flower with bloom and micro, so 2ml micro to 4ml bloom for example. Give it to one plant 1st to see how it takes it, then feed the rest, or can try a different mix on each. I'd shoot for 10-15% runoff as well. You can check the EC and pH of the runoff by collecting in clean cup to see whats going on in the medium. If it comes out low EC they need food, if high EC nute build up is occuring, and if pH below 5.5 or above 7 that will cause issues too.
So I'd do food mix at 6.0-6.2 pH .8-1.0 EC or so and alternate with plain water with .25ml/gal of that calmag (unless you have hard water) at a 6.4-6.5 pH. No problem man, happy to help. I did the same thing, I read and studied everything then ran into so many problems on my first few grows, lol.

Awesome, I will make sure to keep your recomendations in mind. Also just to let you know, Im using RO water (0ppm) when I feed with nutrients and them tap water (around 50ppm, yes my tap is almost like RO) when i give them plain ph water. Do you think I should always use RO and buffer the ph when not giving nutes?

Yeah, At the beggining I was thinking of using gro and bloom for base, like lucas formula + diamond, silica, calmag etc.. But I friend of mine brought the tripart for me and the chart I was follow was this one from "howweedgrow" there is planty of good information in it:

Your tap water is good to use, it contains some macros and metals beneficial to your plant. Ro is generally used when the tap is way out of balance, contaminated, super hard water that kind of thing.

Yeah I’d say just use R/O water. When you’re feeding with “plain water” just add .25-.5ml/gal calmag or so to the r/o and use that and definitely pH adjust to 6.4-6.5. Still do your 6.2 pH feeds, this way there is some pH drift. That swing gives more access to different nutrients. I’d do that all the way through and not just raise up over time like that chart says. If your friend is doing well with that mix, I’d go with it though. Not a bad chart he made. If it seems like it is not working well or not well enough, try those other feed options.

Man Im glad that you told me about raise the ph sometimes... Yesterday I made that mix we were talking about. 1ml ArmorSi, 1ml Calmag, 2Micro, 1Gro, 1mlBloom, 1ml Diamond Nectar, 2grams of Great White. It came out around 0.7Ec. I raised the ph to 6.8, gave the plants until about 15% runoff, tested the runoff and it was 5.5 ph  So I Empted the trays and gave more.. tested the runnof again and it was 5.6. Next water I will have to raise the ph beyond 6.8. Thats why the plants were having problems. its always ph, ph, ph... I sent a mesage to the soil manufacturer cause at the label it says the soil has a ph of 6 and thats totally wrong. Im in brazil, and there is not a lot of options for soiless medium or coco, like promix or foxfarm. So Next time I can try to buffer tthe soil with ph water let it sit in some kind of conteiner before use it.

Nice man, glad I could help. Yeah that pH can sometimes drift off on you quickly. I'm sure the soil pH was fine when you got it, the fertilizers and water inputs can bring it down or up. Did you test the runoff EC by chance? Id just go strait into a good quality coco next time or do an amended soil with the promix, fox farm, and Down to earth amendments if you can get those. Sounds good though, let me know how things go.

Runoff was around 0.7EC (378ppm hanna scale).
Sadly I dont have acess to basic stuff you guys have there, this soiless that Im using was the best peat/perllite soil mix I could find.
Also, Ive seen some people here using coco blocks, they say you must wash it and buffer it otherwise you end up with problems...

I think the Ph went down too quick cause I let it dry too much and nutes concentrated lowering the ph. But plants seems to be loving life right now, I willl keep an eye on thoses runoffs.

day 28 today and they are growing much faster!
Topped them today too

let me ask you something, by any chance you have a GrowDiaries account? I have my grow diarie there and I love it how they organize stuff by weeks with pictures and infos. Feel more like a linear aproach.

Lets keep in touch!

thank you again brother!

If you're growing 'soilless' (aka similar to Promix HP, etc.), you shouldn't be treating it as soil. It took me a grow or two to figure that out...I'm in Promix (peat w/pearlite mildly enhanced w/ a little lime).

I don't alternate between any feeding/watering. It's feed every time, I aim for a pH down around 5.8 but am happy if it's a few tenths below or above that. I filter my water down to 0EC, then build it back up; 2.5ml of Cal/Mg, between 1-2.5g of Epsom salts, then my nutrients. When I feed, I aim at about 20% run off every time. For me in 5g bags, that schedule generally look like every-other day or sometimes every 3 days once the plants have gotten into the end of veg through flower.
