Can someone give me the lowdown on this growlight?

It's the 650R https://horticulturelightinggroup.ca/collections/lamps/products/hlg-650r

I was originally drawn to it for two reasons: first, it's built with Samsung diodes, and secondly, the so-called 'FarRed' factor. I seen another post on here asking if FarRed was dead, so is it something worth pursuing/getting excited over?

It's not a 'bar LED' either, because bar LED's exist, does that render the technology of this growlight sort of obsolete?

If you have owned several different growlights throughout the years, what would you honestly rate this growlight out of 10? (1 being lowest, 10 being highest)

Thats a lot of coin to grow something thats worthless.
Kijiji,face book etc. Should be $500 or less for similar.

HLG is top shelf….you could probably save some money putting together your own components and get similar performance. But as they say, “buy once cry once”.
I use the 320xl r-spec and it does it’s job way better than I do mine.
You won’t be disappointed….HLG and Timber are at the top of my list.

But does the advent of bar LED make this specific model of growlight ineffective or less than I can get if I were to wait for them to unveil a similar model, albeit in bar form? I think this growlight is good, but the fact it isn't bar LED has me skeptical. HLG does have a bar LED light, but it's not made using Samsung diodes

What kind of car do you drive? Toyota/Honda/Nissan, or Lexus/BMW/Mercedes?

Not sure where you're going with the analogy. But I'll bite.

The former are cheaper imports while the latter models are luxury imports. I drive neither; I live in Canada & I drive a Chevrolet.

How big of a space are lighting up ?

Just bought it and love it. Have it in a 5x5. It has uv and far red, $850

Hlg makes good lights, plenty of non name brands have similar specs, and performance at a much lower price, but their lights are fine, and they have a reputation for good customer service and warranty support.

the brand of light you choose is probably the least important aspect of your grow

That spectrum x is an interesting one.

Right now, nothing. Ideally, a 5x5 grow tent, which that light is big enough to accommodate.

Tell me about FarRed please. Perhaps I'm ignorant, but afaik, many manufacturers don;t incorporate the 'FarRed' spectrum into their lights. I heard FarRed is good for blooms, yes?

I’m not a light scientist lol, but most newer leds have a bunch of far red diodes, just look at their spectrographs(and the lights themselves you can see the reds they’re all damn near identical)

just pick a light that’s got enough power for your area, it really doesn’t matter which one

I don't think all lights are identical. I think they might have similar components, but my Mars Hydro is currently at 75% and my plants, despite being perfectly healthy, are growing slower than molasses. But this is what I get for buying a cheaper light. You get what you pay for.

I own HLG lights and they are great, but I also didn't buy a prebuilt fixture, I went the DIY route. I'm a value type of guy too. I personally wouldn't buy a 650R, but it's a good light.

You don't think? I mean it could be, there's about two or three other reasons my plants might be growing slow but the growlight could be a factor. But you're probably right, it's not the growlight.
