can you really tell the difference between marijuana?

I've been reading this canabible and this dude is getting carried away with descriptions and shit. Can you really tell the difference in strains?

its complicated if im getting a new pick up and i have them on a table i can tell them apart but when your talking "dude u know what strain this is?" people grow their weed differently,
i can usually guess a similar strain but when your talking more than one version of one strain it gets really hard.
but i classify myself as a connoisseur with 40~ different strains that i know what they are tested. i also have those strains ill come across after i get a bag of it and i wont know the strain but ill know its the same.

I've been smoking everyday for 40 years and to just smoke a J would be difficult for me to tell the difference strains, by taste. I could or can tell Indica from Sativa by taste and High, I think.
I can tell much more if I see the bud, and seeds and leaves, like I can spot Dirt Mecican, or Commercial Columbian, or Homegrown Indica by it's appearance.

i can tell the difference between inica or sativa by smoking and visual...but i can only pinpoint certain strains thative had over the years....

I wish I could smoke many different strains daily to see the difference. In fact, I wish I has 20 different nuggets in front of me so that I could actually do an experiment. Maybe I need to go to a cannibus cup or something. I was in Amsterdam twice in 2007 but was more concerned about smoking period than actually tasting because I was holed up in England. To be honest, I don't think I have spent enough years smoking yet to appreciate these things. It has been 4 years since I began smoking. What do you think?

yeah noce youve smoked a strain enough or grown it a couple times you can pikc out hybrids at least by smell like i can tll if a strain is a bluebeery hybrid cuz ive edealt with so much bb over the last 10 years also skunk and diesel somwe others i can pick out too

i smoked alot of strains and i can usually tell whats what... i know all the kushes...for example i know bubba kush has a very distinct smell and taste i cant be fooled lol plus ima MMJ patient

I tried to +rep you for it but it wouldn't let me. says I need to spread the love some first.

I can tell primarily by flavor of the smoke, but also to a certain extent by the high.

but when it comes to visual or scent.............it looks like weed and it smells like weed.
