Can you use Regular Pots for Ebb and Flow?

I was wondering if you can use regular soil pots for ebb and flow(flood and Drain) I don't see much of an issue with it as there are holes as the bottom.

I am using hydroton as a medium, 8 inch pots and just setting them on the table...

What the word?

I can also drill a couple holes in the side if needed

yes you can, i would also drill extra holes. you also need to make a lid to cover the table from light and prevent algae growth. i ended up just filling up the entire table with rocks instead

I would think adding rocks( i assume you mean hydroton) will mess with PH.. those things raise ph to their level in no time.

This will happen with new or poorly washed hydroton but will stop in a few days. I use 5.5 inch pots that are 7 inches tall. my table only floods about 3 inches but fill the entire pot with hydroton. the hydroton at the top of the pots stay absolutely dry and prevents light from getting to the roots and I have no algae at all. I do have some bacteria issue in my rez but i think its due to my airstone.

yes, you can use regular pots. And hydroton is fine. It won't do anything with your pH as long as you wash it.
