Can your roots every be too big ?

Ok, I am growing 6 plants in 6 homemade DWC bubblers. They are 3 gallons each, the res on each is 2.5 gallons. My roots have gotten so big, I'm going to put them either in individual 5 gallon buckets or put four plant in one of those 20 gallon rubbermaid storage tubs and two in a 10 gallon one and keep it a DWC bubbler setup.

My question is, in hydro grows, can your rootball get so big that it starts to work against you ? I've been using SPT and it's making my rootballs grow like crazy. If they completely fill the res, will that steal engergy from the plant later, cause I'm two weeks from flowering, so I need to work this out. This is my first hydro grow, so I don't know shit about what is normal. Should I stop using this stuff or cut back on it ? I know from growing in soil if you give weed too much N, you'll cause too much veg growth. But what about roots, can a rootball be too big ?

No your roots can never get too big. A full grown female plant requires at least 2.5 gallons and the single monster system for EBb and flow is a 5 gallon reservoir. I would recommend changing to a 5 gallon and no bigger. I dont know what spt is but just there is no negative effect for having too big of roots.

Thanks everybody for the inputs / advice. I did go up to 5 gallon buckets for each plant, my roots were getting to big for the 3 gallon pots. SPT is Super Plant Tonic, it's this root stuff Ohsogreen posts about on the organics threads. I bought some off Ebay and started using 8 days ago. The stuff is amazing, my rootballs have almost doubled in size since I started using it. I don't have a digital camera, need to get one. When I do, I'll post some pics. The SPT is five star shit !
