Your opinion is not canceled here, it is being challenged though. We have the same continuous government in Canada that perpetuated the crimes against humanity that these children and their parents endured. We are therefore responsible to redress this genuine grievance and the many violations of treaties and other abuses over the years. Treaties made by the crown became Canadian responsibility when we became a country and were made enforceable contracts when we repatriated our constitution in 1982. Where a treaty cannot be enforced because of historic changes, other fair compensation and accommodations need to be made. We either live by the constitution and rule of law or we suffer the alternative consequences and they can be very unpleasant. This is besides the moral and ethical responsibility we have to do the right thing and try to make up for past wrongs. Land issues can be settled in Canada, there's lot's of land and the native population got pushed onto the shittiest land available in many cases.

Feeling cancelled comes from narcissism, typically white narcissism. Don't really hear a lot of black folks complaining about it and they've been cancelled for hundreds of years, but holy shit look out if a white person's opinion is dismissed.

Don't get too worked up about it, white societies in particular tend to condition it in. A certain degree is unavoidable. If one is able to hold up a mirror and see it, that's great, but odds are it's going to be a lifelong battle to keep it in check. That whole open-and-honest-self-improvement thing isn't easy. The ol' ego takes a lot of hits.

No, but it might help people to stop and take an actual look at the very real problems. Especially the people who are elected into positions to do something about the inefficient ways we have allowed our society to continue.

Because the only way to compete at our best is for 100% of our population to be able to succeed to the best of their abilities. Right now that has not been the case for far too long here in America, which is where I live and why I care about racial injustices that our society has continued.

Probably from Alberta, so in a way he already is, if there's a "red" province in Canada, Alberta is it. Lot's of high paying oil industry employment for uneducated people these past 20 years, filled the place with dummies and they weren't to swift to begin with there.

Haven't had time to see what was written, just stepped in and got to go out.

I MISSED IT!

I just overheard a pice of the story yesterday from the neighbour's radio playing next door. I thought the 250 kids were across Canada from all the schools. I got my morning paper today and it was on the front page and my heart sank. I have not read the article yet, tomorrow is going to get hot enough to be painful for me so I am getting a week's worth of stuff do where I have to get out. My apologies to everyone, I just caught part of the story and jumped in when I saw the water thing. I was looking at it from a current standpoint, what can we do going forward in terms of the reserve system.

Again, sorry, sorry, sorry. I made the same kind of thing saying "How are you doing." to a son of a friend who's funeral I was at. The son said, "Well considering my dad is now in that ern..." I felt terrible, his wife was there and she knew me better and knew I just automatically said a normal greeting we all use. She gave me a hug then, she knew my feelings towards my friend. Again, sorry for the grief I caused anyone, I didn't realized I was stepping into it and slipped and fell on my ass.
