so i got 2oz of early trimmed bud with good thc on it and a oz of trimmings...with 4 sticks of butter in a mason jar that sits in a crock pot thats is boiling water for 8 hours.

a few questions while it is cooking...

is there a maximum temperature i should let it get? can it get too hot to where it damages the thc? or can i straight up boil the butter? also form my understanding i dont even need to be throwing it in a mason jar, i could just throw it directly in the water...anyone ever use the mason jar way?

thanks:weed:

ummm i think your talking about a double boiler, the mason jar+plant matter+butter go into a pot of boiling water, boiling water only reaches 100-110f which is enough to melt the butter and allow the thc to leech out w/o any risk of burning the cannabutter.

boiling water reaches 150 plus

can you burn the thc and damage it/loose potency?

lol yea ment celsius, im a chem major so my mind is always in metric. but no, it wont burn the thc or butter and is actually a bettery way for the process esp over a long time.

what is a better way? when the water is boiling at 230 degrees the butter in the jar is only like 110 -135 degrees, it is all liquid, is this going to get the job done? or does the butter need to get hotter?

anyone ever use the butter and bud in the mason jar method? mason jar sits in boiling water...i would assume the other way of mixing directly in water would mess with the butter, how can the water be good for it?

Sure you can mix the butter with water. I find it superior than just butter alone. Oil and water dont mix. The cannabinoids and THC bind to the oil which stays seperate from the water, while the water extract some of the non active junk and keeps it out of your butter. You can then strain any plant matter out after the simmer, collect the butter and water mix in a tapered bowl or glass, toss in the fridge to harden, then collect your hardened butter from the top of the water, it will be a solid puck of cannabutter.

We take about 6 to 7 ozs of sugar leafs and popcorn buds and put in about 4 and a half cups of non salted butter and water up to the level of the bud. Super slow simmer for about 3 hours and then with the actions used above we end up with some butted so strong make you think jesus is coming for tea.. lol
