Carbon filters

How do you get the carbon to pack back down? I thought they used something like industrial vibrators to pack the carbon tight enough to be 100% effective?
i fill by hand, one 12oz cup at a time, poured slowly around the filter ring (between the meshes). shake every few cup fulls to keep it even and displace air/pack carbon. it doesn't have to be super compressed, just full.

Right on. This is very helpful stuff for anyone on this thread looking to save $$ or DIY the one they already have that needs replaced.

I smack, tap and shake mine a little. You actually don't want to vibrate them too much. It will make the smaller pieces settle in one spot and that spot will fail first.

Once I get it full I keep adding carbon. Like a mound that slopes from the neck to the edge. As I put the cap back on I work it and it settles and makes a tight seal. With a little practice you will get it.

The stuff is messy. I take a shop vac to the inside and outside of the filter to remove the carbon dust.

White Window STINKS - you will definitely need smell protection during flowering and probably during veg too!
Not the worst strain. I had a cheese bomb that was horrible and needed a second filter. I also had to make a frame and plastic to make an airlock for my cabinet to keep it from stinking up the house when I opened my cab.

I'm tight but If drop a hundred bucks every couple years I'm happy. I imagine it would last longer but I really don't want attention. Stealth

The muffler is a good idea. I have one as well. The blower some hang from bungies but mine is mounted on wood in the crawl with insulation on it. Been there almost 4 years. Very quiet. I keep a spare of everything.

Some are good for longer.

I rebuild and refill mine. I also bake them to refresh the carbon.

Over size the filter and it will last longer. Like a 8 inch filter on 4 inch fan. The only reason they have you match them is to replace them more often.

The larger filter has more surface area so the air moves slower over the carbon and scrubs it better. It is also easier on the fan.
Going to be trying this when current filter stops working :)

Built my own muffler using 5mm FoamBoard - built along the same lines as a gun silencer - works great - hung with bungies. If you've got the space build you're own using all the space you've got!

Fan is box mounted (loose in box then stuffed all round with insulation) and hung by bungies too. Proper variac speed controller too - only a small cupboard setup but I appreciate the stealth this brings.

No doubt :)
I'll test run my stuff on Saturday since I'll be at work on Friday. I hope they just leave it at the door, else I gotta wait till Monday. But then lol know if I need to do any more dampening or not.
