cfl temperature vs T5 ho temperature

Yep, "lamps" are just the bulbs w/o a fixture. Really any floro fixture that accepts a T5 bulb should work.

If you don't want to shell out the cash for a 2 lamp fixture, SunBlaze has T5 "strip lights" (just one bulb in a fixture) that are like $30 or less, and you can daisy chain more than one of them together (they also have fixtures w/ reflectors that will hold multiple strip lights)... so you could pick up just one, and then add more when you have the cash.

thats good to hear!! i might get a couple of the strip lights for now... i want to start out slow and gradually get all the better stuff for my box... actually ill build a better box later too but i am going to work my way up as i get more experienced with growing and eventually i am going to devote my whole walk-in closet to growing if i can. probly will switch to hps/mh setup at that point though and just use all the cfls and tubes that i have accumulated as side lighting so i get get some really large "popcorn" buds.

finally got around to taking bulb temps.

T5HO = 100F
a random sampling of cfls from around the house was anywhere from 135F to 180F.

i knew they got hot, but damn...

wow i knew they got pretty hot but thats fucking smokin.... mine i dont think are quite that hot (cfls) i can always touch mine and keep my hand on them fo as long as i like. i think they probly get to around 140 or so... its funny because ive noticed the color temperature makes a huge difference in actual temp. where my 42 w 2700k cfls are much hotter than my 105 w 6500k cfl... i thought that was pretty interesting! thanks for the info and measuring the temps of your t5s good to know they only get to about 100! i dont know that i will be switching to them totally but i may take my 42s out and use some t5s for my next grow.... this grow is doing well except for a hiccup of spider mites that i discovered a couple days ago... they are on their way out though cuz it wasnt bad and i went right out and got some spray for em....

if anyone else has any info on temps for their cfl or t5 lights and can tell us something, lets hear it! it would be cool to know if there is a temp difference between the 2 foot and 4 foot t5s and also if anyone has an assortment of cfls they maybe could measure the temps of those and do a post where they are saying what the temps are for each wattage/ color temp cfl! thanks again

Floros though are also covering a larger area, so of course at with say a Floro pulling 50 watts and a CFL pulling 50 Watts the CFL would be hotter as its concentrated. At the same time the lumens are more concentrated though.

yeah i thought it was pretty crazy that the smaller wattage bulb i have are hotter so it must have something to do with the spectrum for sure.... really interesting. it would be nice to have a box that when you look inside all you see are high output fluoros lining the walls and ceiling! just enclose your plants with lights like a tanning bed or something haha...wait a sec, i wonder if you could grow weed in a tanning bed if you changed the bulbs to the proper ones.... just stand it up on one end with the door propped open a little, have a fan blowing in the bottom in the opening from the door, have an exhaust up top and all you gotta do is plug in the bed haha i bet you could get some hell of an amount of power out of a tanning bed!
