CFL's are stupid. I took them down.

CFL's are awesome! I used them when I started my grow indoors and within a couple months, each plant was up to 3.5ft tall.

Each plant had it's own CFL which put out 150w apiece.

I tried to flower one of my clones with my CFL's and after a month, i was able to see the sex, but that's it! I was expecting to see a lot more after a month, but nada. I decided to move her back outdoors and she did rather nicely with the sun :)

In end, CFL's great for veg stage, but shitty for flowering.

i can't afford the lights like most people on here can and i don't need a perpetual grow like everyone on here seems to so i don't see the point in spending that much money on a HID light. i enjoy the experiment of growing indoors so i use cfl's just to learn. Of course cfl's aren't as good as HID's. Their not as good as the sun either but that doesn't mean i'm going to grow outdoors instead of using cfl's indoors.

Yeah if you don't know what you're doing.
Otherwise great for the low budget but smart grower.
I wish I could have like 5 1000w hps. But I can't.
So I as well as others wish you people would stop bashing the way we grow!

I have an hps myself, but I see several growers on this forum who are currently doing quite well with CFL's and not using a million of them either. To each his own I say. But you can't deny the fact that people are getting results. If they weren't...no one would use them at all.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't there a book out about how to grow using CFL's? How would such a book be published were it not possible?

Hi Tanuvan, i won't argue with your conclusion - i too see successful CFL growers. I've never tried them so won't comment either way. However - there is a lot of bullshit published in books all the time! wouldn't use that as a yardstick :-)

the cheapest i would consider buying that i can find is from high tech garden supply and it's 167.95 and its this HTGSupply Ultimate 250w HPS & MH Grow Light. 167.95 is hard for me to come up with especially around christmas but i spent 7 dollars for four cfls, 2 bucks for 2 y adapters, and a 6 ft cord for another 2 bucks. I'm only growing one plant for the experience. And everything seems to be coming along. Once I get the basics down I might invest in something better but I never buy top of line equipment unless I'm going to devote my life to it. And I don't plan on spending the rest of my life growing pot.

I truely agree with you. I myself only have one plant that is in week 6 of flowering and I only have three warm 26w cfls. With only these bulbs and lst I will probably get near an ounce. I look at it like this go around I wanted to experiment and see how good I could grow it with as little as I could. Mind you though I didn't overlook good venting and nutes. But it has worked for me, so why mess with a GOOD & CHEAP thing?

I have 3 good ones thank you, and they work fine for me because I know how to use them. With good prunning techs during flowering I get enough light through out the plant. What didn't work for you seems to work just fine for others.

i see A LOT of new growers getting sucked into CFL's only to regret it later. i was just trying to help a few people. if you're happy then carry-on with what you're doing. you're certainly not going to affect my beliefs in anyway. been there, done that. :)

I also believe that most people who are serious about this particular hobby will do some reading of these forums. About the only thing I gather from the difference in HPS and CFL are typically the yield.

The flower density issues are somewhat resolved with ScroG or LST. If you aren't expecting outrageous yields, I think CFL's are a great way to go. Some people just don't need pounds for their grows to be considered successful in their eyes.

For 1 or 2 plant "stealth" grows...which are typically what I see people using CFL's for, the "Get a 600 watt HPS" seems a bit ridiculous.
