Cheap and easy Co2

Use 5 or 6 cups of sugar in a 1 gallon container, make sure the container has a fitted lid. Add half a gallon of water to the sugar along with a couple of tablespoons of active yeast.Poke a small, pencil-like hole in the lid and place it on top of the container.

As often as possible shake the container to blend the mixture thoroughly. In one or two days the yeast will grow and co2 will be a by-product in the container. Now, every time you shake it a burst of co2 will be released into the grow room. Also it will continue to be released through the hole in the lid while you are away. You'll have to change the mixture once every 2-3 weeks.

what does the co2 do? Smell or does it inprove the growth?
when we breath oxygen, we release co2. when plants breathe co2 from their leaves, they release oxyen--they also intake oxygen from their roots--thats what bubble cloners are based on

Couldn't you also try baking soda and vinegar? Those two combinations make CO2 as well. Maybe enough of both in a gallon of water with the pencil hole would act the same. Exactly how does your method work? Is it just part of the fermintation process?

It seems I answered some of my questions here.

Well skunk, I have just tried your method (mixed about 10 hours ago) and am putting the gallon container in the grow box. I'll let you know how it turns out. :)

Don't forget, only half fill the bottles. Shake regularly. The co2 will take about 24 hours to start working.
Yes I know. I read your directions very carfeully. It will be very interesting if it works. The mixture has a very unique smell to it. I shook it a couple of times and before I fell asleep lsat night, a huge burst came out. :) So I just put it in the box.

I think that would be the idea. If you want to make sure it works, shake it with something covering the hole, then let it go. Some sort of reaction should happen. :)

skunk, that is the setup that I use in my grow. I am too cheap to actually buy a CO2 tank and setup. and it does work for everyone in here. smells like fucked up bread though.

Yeah, me too. I don't even buy proper pots, I buy pour buckets and melt holes in the bottom with a heated screwdriver. I've also only just bought a propagator, before that I was using caserole dishes and cling-film.

LOL yea it definitely does. I used brown sugar too, because that was all I had. The effect seems the same though. When I smelled it I wondered if it would attract any bugs.
