Made it here from finding your Hash Passion thread (I've got two at day 12), and am liking your grows. Subbed.

Hello folks,
I am a new mm patient and I bought LED from Apache Tech simply because of the electrical issues and the electrical cost factory. I am new to growing and really
am trying to figure out how to go about the whole process of using the LED start to finish, spoke to A tech and was advised 2/3 feet for clones/veg
and he also recommended covering the red spectrum lights with black electrical tape, then when flowering remove the tape.
On this thread I have read of folks using the (AT120r/w(3:2)ratio from start to finish.
I was able to pick up a couple of clones (1 white widow & 2 AK 48) and I had a few (mexican) seeds and I poped them and planted them.

I used the LED light and set it up 1 feet above the plants and gave them 16-18 hours of light and that did not work out. One ak quickly withered and died
however the and the other seemed to be on it way. However the white widow seemed to enjoy the light.
That is one I contacted Robert and he advised 1-2 feet and possibly even three feet above the canopy. A few more days went by and it seem to be going better.
In the mean time I decided I needed a seedling/cloning grow area so I ordered a 2nd tent, with a T5 light.
I switched the plant out of the LED light to the T5 and the plants responded immediately.
So I started reading more about the LED w/r 2:3 ratio and found that it was specifically designed for flowering.
So could someone please explain to this uneducated grower the correct process to use LED red/white 3:2 ratio
Cheers,
Thanks

Welcome to the apache club. Yeah, the AT should be 2-3 feet above clones or you'll get issues. I run mine about 36" in veg. They also told me that covering the red rows of LEDs will help cut stretch as well. These are very intense LEDs. I also find that sometimes when I bring new clones home and put them under the LEDs it takes them a few nodes of growth to get acclimated to the new environment, especially the intense light because I suspect the lighting at the dispensary is low. Maybe after a week or so under the t5 they will be better suited to handle the apache. Hope this helps.

Do you have any pictures you could toss up? I do not have an AT :/ unfortunately, but I have seen side effects when playing with high instensities.

What size space are you lighting? Again, I cant speak from experience, but I could see it being easy to over light an area, maybe not in footprint- but in the "core saturated area," know'm'sayin?

When going from light source to light source I think you gotta keep a few things in mind, especially in the same plant's life cycle. PERSONALLY. #1 thing for me is Spectrum... if you're going from a 6500k T5 setup to a 4000k(~) w/ a 3:2 of Red... whatever you're running, there's going to be a period where the plants kind've stop and don't know how to react.. but then they adapt, and take what that spectrum renders, useful or not. (heavy blue's..) #2 is the Variation in intensities. I don't know how many T5's you have, but two 14w Sylvania 2700k T5s gave me 350-400umol right on top of them.. im not sure im crazy enough to put the sensor ONTO the bulbs. ha. You gotta think with a 2" gap.. idk, I haven't gotten to play with more than 4 lit up so I cant say how it spreads or how HO's do... uuuuhm....o

Going from say 250umol to 700+ has got to surprise them and throw on the same effect, so maybe finding those sweet spots (heights..) for each stage is all it is...

#3 When you are talking like 1000+, which Im sure AT can hit within a 14-16" gap, the Five Factors that Ol' Rosenthal said would limit growth are Light, Nutes, Temp/RH, Water, and CO2.. If you increase your light intensity and that's the only factor that was taken into account (yet), one, or a few of the other factors may be holding things back. In my case it was nutes. (are you soil or hydro?) but that does not mean it couldn't be C02, Watering, or the Temps/RH in any other case or down the road.

"A deficiency of any single factor limits growth to the level that factor supplies.." -Rosenthal

Yea, what he said.

Both puff and scotch answered it perfect.

You just had your light way too close. You have a Apache now...one of, if not the best light out. They cover less, but the intensity within their coverage is better than a 1000w, from the same height too(18" with AT200 is more intense than 18" from 1000hps. I never run mine less than 18", and that's in full flower, specially with the new at200. I run my light about 36" in veg. Apache has made there recommendations so that at that height it provides the right amount of light to the canopy. This target is between 700µmols-1200µmol for high light requiring plants ganja.

Which Apache did you get?? The original at120 or new at200.

As weird and janky as it sounds covering the reds isnt a bad thing for veg. It will balance out the spectrum to be more even, instead of red dominant. I have vegged(and flowered) under all of them...all white, blue/white, red/blue, R1(4W:1R), R2(3W:2R). the R2(what you have) will just give you slightly shorter node spacing and keep it a hair shorter. But not noticeable unless you are trying to to really see differences(like I was). I like the R1 better than all white for veg so covering the reds would turn your R2 closer to a R1.

Welcome to the Apache club!
