Choosing a co2 burner

What’s up everybody,

Moving at the end of the month so I’m putting together some new stuff for a top notch room. I don’t have the exact measurements of the room but it is roughly 10x12. I have 4 600w hps lights I’m going to run in flower and my buddy has a couple LEDs he’s lending me ranging from 600-1000w. So I’ll use a couple of those in between my hps. I ordered new RO system, ordering a portable ac and hydro x trolmaster this week. Already have my dehumidifier, might need to get a humidifier as well. I was going to get a co2 tank and regulator but with the hydro x I believe I need something that can plug into or connect to the hydro x. Am I wrong? So my question is which burner do you guys think is the best option/safest. Based off the room setup. Was looking at the auto pilot 4 burner. The titan seemed to have a few too many reviews stating people came into rooms strongly smelling of propane. One person said they ended up in the hospital because of it. Any quality burners you guys have tried that you would recommend? And anything else you think I may need in my room?

The co2 tank gets a regulator with a solenoid valve that plugs into your controller.

I use co2 generators because I have natural gas plumbed to my home so no hauling tanks.

The titan seemed to have a few too many reviews stating people came into rooms strongly smelling of propane.
A co2 generator has an ignitor that throws sparks to ignite the gas. If the ignitor is misaligned then the unit will let some gas into the room but they stop and won't flood the room with gas. Smelling gas means the unit just needs a little service to properly align the ignitor.

I have sentinel ICG-30 NG HA units in my flowering rooms. If you are at high altitude you need a certain model to run with the lower oxygen levels (thin air).

If you run a CO2 tank then you want a controller with fuzzy logic.

What size is your AC? The co2 generator will add heat.

4 x 600 HPS will make some heat too. and the dehumidifier makes heat. With a portable you will be right at the limits likely. I think the portables top out at 14,000 BTU/hr and thats what I would get if portable is the only option. The best AC for a grow is a ductless minisplit but the installation is difficult and they aren't cheap.

Okay that’s good to know. Are the tanks as effective? Would you reccomend going with the tank instead of burner to minimize any extra heat?

I was going to go scoop a 12k BTU one this week. Was going to order one but my
Buddy works at appliance place so he is hooking me up. I had been running 3 600w in my 10x10 tent this past year. No ac or co2. Granted it was in the basement so it was cool down there. But my room temps were fine it was just the canopy that got to hot. This setup I will have more room above because I’m not in tent and my table will be closer to the ground. I would do a split ac but unfortunatly I dont know how long I’m going to be at this place. Waiting on a house to buy so it could be anytime. I figured with the co2 my temps would be okay. My understanding is that you can run higher temps with the co2. This is my first go with it though so I’m happy to get all input. Thanks for reply

I used a tank once, we got the big 80 pound cylinders and they lasted my 12kW room at the time just 2 days. Lame. Switched it to a generator. That was the only time I have run a tank, my grows are just too big for a tank.

Yeah I don’t blame you. Lugging 80lb tank in every 2 days would get old real quick. I figured in the new room a 20lb tank might last me a couple weeks. Does that seem plausible?

I get about 30 days on a 20lb tank @ 1000ppm average. 12/12 cycle.
Vegetation area is 4x4, entire room is 4x4x8. Window AC. Not well sealed.

Regulator kits are relatively inexpensive. ($20 for tank exchange at my local hydro hut.)

Yeah my room was a whole basement with 4 ton ductless mini split. That home was on propane and we had a big 300 gallon propane pill for the house and a 1500 gallon propane pill dedicated to the backup generator (2 weeks worth). When running the CO2 off the propane generator I just let the propane company do all the hauling. That home was built in the 40's and was poorly insulated and leaky.

It's tent that makes a tank pretty much mandatory. A lot of people in smaller rooms use the tank simply because they don't have a gas line in a bedroom and hauling propane makes as much sense as just hauling Co2.

I'm not one for hauling tanks either and my nat gas is already plumbed and ready to go. Has anyone heard of problems with vo2 generators?

As long as your flame is blue and not yellow you are good to go, yellow flame = carbon monoxide from incomplete combustion, improper air : fuel ratio. High altitude models are required above certain altitudes, make sure you get that right... If you wanna be safe put a carbon monoxide detector in the grow room, if your burners get dirty and start making CO gas then you will know. I have never had this happen but I use a wire brush to clean the burner nozzles between runs, you would be amazed the crap that builds up there.

fwiw, in my area we can have external propane tanks and suburban propane will come out and refill them on a regular basis. You have to meet certain criteria, like distance from a window or door, but it's not hard to find a place that works. After that just run some approved line into the room you need it. Just tell the plumber it's for a dryer and they will happily run the line and leave it capped.

The driver only sees the outside tank from that point on. No fuss. No muss. No hauling tanks.

Anyone used the Green Air CO2 burner? Im in the market looking for a CO2 generator and Sentinel seems to be out of business. Cant find their propane burners anywhere.
