Chop now or wait a few?

So here's another "are they ready?" thread. The thing that has me questioning is the fact that I had some hermies this round, and everything should be pollenated (not too badly, but still :spew: right?). There are a few ripe looking seeds on each plant poking out and I can tell the seeds are ready. But the question is whether or not the buds are ready. The pistils are mostly all orange, trichs are mostly couldy with some amber. That's kind of the way I like it, but I want it to be finished...so here are the pics.

Two plants left in question.

8 Weeks Flowering

They showed sex early in 18/6 and were kept in veg for about a month before 12/12. The 8 weeks is just 8 weeks of 12/12, not including the first month (give or take) in 18/6.

1x Juicy Fruit
1x Trainwreck

600 watts HPS, soil medium.

Juicy Fruit #2:

There are tons of trichs, most cloudy, and few amber. The leaves started turning purple about a week ago and they are all yellowing now. Looks like normal ripening...just not sure if she's quite there yet.

Trainwreck:

This one hasn't started yellowing at all (maybe strain?). Smells kind of like blueberry so I think the genetics are off unless it was just crossed. Almost every pistil has turned yellow except a few on the bottom nugs. Trichs are almost all cloudy, but the calyxes are starting to open up which makes me think it's ready to be chopped.

Thanks for stopping by. :peace:

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'm going to let both of them go another week. I was thinking chop the TW b/c all of the pistils are turned and the buds/calyxes just look like they have stopped forming. The JF looks like it still has some calyx formation and more white pistils here and there than the TW. So I guess I'll just let them both go another week and take it from there.

yeah juicy fruit looks real nice
well both em do
but chop that juicy fruit now is what im sayin
Thanks man, I'll probably chop them some time soon. I'll give it a few more days to finish up. I just don't want to chop too early. Also thinking about just leaving them in darkness for a day or two before I chop them (doubt it really helps though).

Thanks for the kind words. I really don't think this grow was very outstanding. I could have yielded a lot more, but shit happens sometimes. bongsmilie

Cut the both plants and hang them upside down for 1-2 weeks. If you cut the whole plant buds (and seeds) will continue to ripe until there’s some water left in the plant (usually 2-4 weeks). You (and everyone else) want to do this because this method will produce buds that are smoother and tastier than anything you ever smoked.

Have to agree with twnty8....I left mine in darkness for 72 hours, and she frosted up quite nice:hump:.. A lot more trichs than when I turned the lights out.
Sounds nice. I thought the theory was mainly due to the way the plant takes up sugars during the lights off period vs lights on. I'm rusty on my biology, calvin's cycle, etc so I don't know exactly what I'm saying. Maybe it helps trich production, but based on my experience it's negligable. Glad to hear you had some positive results though. :)

Sounds like a plan. I've tried hanging the plants and a few other ways. I personally like to manicure while the plant is still wet/moist, and I tend to cut off as much stem as possible to let the buds dry easier. Seems to me that most of the water weight lies in the vascular tissue (i.e. stems, stalks) so I like to remove as much of that excess water as possible before I lay them to dry. But to each his/her own. :joint:
