Chrome or White reflector for 400w HPS

I am about to switch from 420 watts of hot cfl's to 400 watt HPS, in hopes that the heat will be the same or less and better light. I think cfl's work well if you have a lot and place them close, but they are too hot if you have enough.

I found this deal: Econo 400w HPS with White Reflector - Inside Sun

It is a refurbished 400w HPS for $99. It comes with either a chrome or white batwing reflector.

Any thoughts on which reflector? Chrome is real shinny, but should I worry about hot spots?

How about it being refurbished? Inside Sun any experience?

I have a 2x3x4 box with 265cfm blower exhaust, passive intake, can leave open most of the time. Any thoughts on heat?

I was putting clones straight to flower, and now think I want to veg till 12"-18" so maybe use my cfl's for veg.

For $99, I think I made a real mistake in choosing cfl's.

Thanks in advance for thoughts:bigjoint:

ya CFL are soooooo much more expensive in the long run. you can get 400 watt hps bulbs for $10-$12 US. thats how much it costs for ONE 42 watt CFL.

Anyway, good find on the refurb. your dimensions are kinda small for a 400HPS though. your length and width looks good but you might want a bit more height. unless you want to use an air cooled hood with seperate exhaust but thats a lot of unneccesary work.

everything you listed looks really good;
265CFM exhaust
passive intake
400 HPS

all you need is another foot of height an yer laughing... and you can mount the 400 at the top of the box, close to the exhaust fan. if you dont you will need a seperate coolling system for the lamp i can guarantee it

good for you! upgrading to HID lights! this is a big step in cultivation you know :) i remeber when i converted...i started with a 35HPS though!!! lol!!!! ahhhh what a waste of time and money that was. but! a learning experience none the less

good luck

oh.....and go with the chrizzome reflector....for shizzle....
Thanks for the advice! Chrome it is. I think I will be switching to 7pm-7am so I am home during the entire time lights on, in case I can't manage the heat with the box closed. Free heat this year!

Don't know how to make this go away. Help from one member, thanks to them. And for all the other advice from nobody else....:finger:

I went with the euro air-cooled hood from HTG more money less heat issues. I am very happy. Though with the upgraded hood and bulb, $240 shipped.

:peace:
