Whats up RIU members,

I've been complaining to myself about the problem, but finally decided to ask for some help.

I clean my bongs with salt and rubber alchol or isphorly stuff, can't spell. Then finish it with a quick wash of CLR to give it the shine.

The only probably is no matter how much I clean it, the resiny smell is still there and the bong water smell. Is there a good cheap way to have it so I can take a dry hit out of it and it will taste liek clean glass and not grossness.

Thanks,
AllDayToker

Carb cleaner cuts any gum or buildup, but try brakleen after the carb clean, it will remove the residue left from the petrol in the carb c.
Being an ex mechanic, I got all sorts of stuff around, but I've found with EPA regs and what not, usually the cheap brands work just as well, if not better than name brands.
The carb cleaner from Wal Mart works great, but their brakleen is shit.
The store brand brakleen at Advance is good.

I use 420 cleaner, grunge off, and Dr. Green's cleaner and all of them get the smell out, just a little bit stronger alcohol maybe? cause they always kill the smell, idk.

This will clean the bong and leave and good taste afterwards?
Don't want much do you!!?? :)

Handy thread this, I had never even thought you could get a bong totally clean, and use just added character, but I'll give a couple of these a try

You'll see a big difference if you just do a rubbing alcohol/salt mixture and flush the bong before you use it, you'll never wanna hit a dirty bong again, lol.

An important aspect of cleaning bongs with iso and salt is that you get all the resin off. If you just put it in there, shake it a few times, and call it clean disregarding that their is still resin in your bong then you are wasting your time.

Go to home Depot and buy a gallon of Zep's Orange Citrus Degreaser. Rinse the bong out with hot water, fill it with Zep's, let it sit for several hours depending on how old the resin/stains are, if it doesn't wash clean you need to let it sit for longer. I rinse some iso through it after it to help clear out the orange smell, but water alone can get rid of it.

You can pour the used zeps in a jar and re use it a couple of times so at $9/gal plus reuses it's pretty economical.

I hung one of those stern French placards ... "défense de fumer" ... near my paint cupboard. It does defend against the fumes nicely.

But if folks are gonna freely spray carb cleaner inside their houses, I figure I'll recommend something more effective and less fumish. cn

My bongs have always come out clean with just iso and sea/rock/coarse salt. Higher percentage of iso will make cleaning easier/faster. I don't let my bong get filthy though.... Then rinse bong with hot water. Just like new... Maybe its your bowl? Did you clean your bowl too? Buildup in the stem would give you that nasty ass taste. Get a ziploc bag, iso, salt, bowl. Remove rubber o-ring if there is one on bowl stem. Put all in bag. Shake it up for a while. Rinse under hot water. Repeat til clean.... Good luck! Peace&Pot

if you use iso and salt and it still smells like bong you didn't clean it thoroughly. it should smell like absolutely nothing (or bad tap water). it's important to clean the stem, any bowls or ashcatchers, and other pieces with crevices or it will still smell. i use epsom salt instead of regular salt. bigger chunks = more scraping power. the key is to clean it often enough to keep resin stains from forming so cleaning isn't a big project.

I've used CLR to get hard-water stains out of my bongs, works like a charm. Makes them really sparkle.

It's a harsher chemical and it's safe to use in coffee pots, let alone bongs.
