Clone help

So I can get them to root no prob. I have a aero cloner (no media). When they have 3-4 inches of roots I put them directly into hydroton in my flood table. This is when they die just a few days later.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hey Freelint,

Are you top feeding for the first week or two?
Your clones may need to be watered from above untill the roots are able to "drink" them selves.

Once your clones have rooted, they no longer really need a humidity dome.
You got the hard part done ( rooting your clones ).
The rest should be easy!

Good Luck

No I did not water from the top. Just let the flood table do the work. I know the roots reach the flood line, but next round I will top feed for a week or 2.

It just sucks cause I lost almost all my clones, and now the donors are flowering.

I'm only 6 days into flower, can I still take cuttings or is it too late?

Thx

The roots dry out because they arent getting enough moister. It make sense because they are not in a medium to begin with. If your gonna grow in hydro then put your clones in rockwell or top feed them. Look where the roots start.

why are you using a humidity dome?? that is completely unnecessary in a aero cloner sounds to me like shock from the transplant and humidity combination. you have to be very gentle with the roots for they can snap very easy (if you snap the main tap root where all the others form from your absolutely screwed) you may not even know you did this when you started dumping hydroton on them!! now for the dome get rid of it or if you absolutely have to have it remove it every day extending the time each time till when you transplant you pretty much dont need it anymore. this is why i like to use rapid rooters and a humidome the taproot and the larger root mass is all protected by the medium. no medium in aero cloners is cool and can work well but there definitely is a art to it before and after rooting.

Thx for all the great replies. I will give it another try, and ditch the dome.

This was my first time cloning so hopefully next round is ok.

I do the same thing as you are with 100% success the only factor is the dome lose it and be gentile with the Hydroton and you should be fine.
