Cloning Question +rep for help

...my thought exactly, too hot. I'd use Fox Farms Happy Frog @ this stage.
...I used rapid rooters my first few grows, then I was introduced to the ezcloner...no rooting gel needed, just straight dechlorinized water pH'd @ 6.0, I get 100% success rate in 5-7 days, everytime, always.

Is that like a little hydro set up? Or do the roots just sit in the water? And how does it keep the lights off the roots?

There are a couple of different kinds. The ez cloner is an aeroponic cloner I believe. They have a pump which sprays water at predetermined intervals and keeps the stems/roots wet. The other kind is a bubble cloner. In this setup the stem actually is submerged in water and an airpump pumps air through an airstone which keeps the water oxygenated. Both setups can be made for a fraction of the cost of the brand name cloners. Check the diy subforum and they have lots of threads of people building cloners. :weed:

Cool, thanks for the heads up.

I made some calles, The Big Tomato has the EZ Cloner for $300 to $500 for the 3 different sizes.

EZ Cloner is around $20 plus I think you have to buy a hood.

As long as the EZ Cloner is close to being as fast and the success rate is close, I think I've made up my mind.

Does anyone have an opinion about EZ Cloner or can anyone give a quick comparison breakdown?

And does anyone know if they're sold retail or by internet mail order only?

I found the Rapid Rooter $20 Dome $15 and heat mat $27 near my Dr.s office which is convenient since I have to leave fot the Dr's in about 15 minures.

Can someone confirm or debunk the 2 week rooting speed before I leave?

If you have the money that is cool but you can make one easy and cheap. I have made a bubbler cloner as well as aero cloner and both work great.

If you stay with the foxfarm soil. Cut it with a bag of light warrior for the little ones. If you like cloning in cups use red for your bottom cup and clear cup on top of that one for a dome.. Good luck and read as much as you can about growing.:bigjoint:

Comfirm that you get roots quick..... heres 8 days in the dome.....I dont recomend anything that i dont use myself

Don't get too worked up about cloning. People make it sound harder than it really is. And the great thing about it is that there are numerous ways to clone. Find which one works best for you and stick with it. I find that cloning in soil typically takes a week or so longer than bubblers or whatever. I am trying the rapid rooters because I like to try different methods. If I get roots a week faster with them then it's worth it IMO. :weed:

Thanks for the info, but I decided to go with Rapid Rooter. In the end it was less expensive even with the heating pad, and I have to conserve money right now.

I also have to conserve time. I still have to light proof the door that has 2 air ducts coming out. I have to figure out how to cut the right size holes in the right plance on the material I have up & secured by velcro. Then I have to hang the ducts at the holes height, take them apart, thread them through the holes, and put them back together.

Then after that I can start lady bug proofing the room so I can introduce the lady bugs.

Plus I have to figure out a pH fluctuation problem that makes no sense, check the clones to see which ones have roots, and transfer the rest to this 50 unit tray while somehow keeping track on which clippings are which strains.

This really is turning into work. lol But thanks for the info, I'll probably try to build one when I have more time and money.

Dude you are the bomb, I wish I could +rep you, they're a little ridiculous with this rationing thing so you can't +rep someone more than once in every (guessing) thousand +reps.

Someone please +rep this man for me, he gives noting but solid info.

BTW, it doesn't say if I should pH the water I use to soak the cubes or the 1/4" of water I have to keep in the bottom of the tray. Where do you set the pH at.

Also, do you use rooting hormones and/or add anything to the water?

And I'm not sure if you use FFOF, but if you do, am I going to transfering from the tray strait into FFOF?

That's not the reason I'm getting worked up. I was told that I can root in dirt in 2 weeks, and I'm counting on the clones to bring in some case while I wait for the ones vegging to get ready for harvest. It's stressful when you can't work and you have to figure out a way to survive for 3 months. I was born poor but by the time I was 16 and moved out, I was making good money. I've never been in this position before.

If these work well, and I'm confident they will, I'll stick with them and maybe try one of those..... can't remember what they're called now. lol The ones that spray the roots with water. I'm thinking about (after a harvest or 2) setting up in one apartment and living in the apartment next door. A cloner that you don't need to babysit would make that plan a lot more feasable.

I just bought the Rapid Rooter 50 clone tray & plugs. It didn't come with a set of instructions, so I have a few questions.

1 - It doesn't say if I should pH the water that I use to soak the cubes in or the 1/4" of water I have that I'm to keep in the bottom of the tray. Can anyone tell me where this pH should be set at for this cloner

2 - Am I supposed to use rooting hormones and/or add anything to the water?

3 - The only soil I have right now is Fox Farm Ocean Forrest. When I'm ready to transplant the rooted clones into soil (when the roots start peeking out), is this soil going to be too strong for the young plant?

+rep for any of the 3 answers.
And a + rep for anyone who gives Vapevg13 a +rep for me.

I use tap warm tap water to soak the RRs.... then use any type of rooting hormone... l use dip-n-grow but the white powdery like schultz is ok

You want a soil with no fert in it for the TP

If you have the RR tray ok..... I didnt buy that...I use a seed germinating tray with a dome.

To make the RR smore stable.... I flipped them upside down so the wide part with the hole is on the bottom....now they wont tip over in the dome

I use a toothpick to make a new hole.... off to the side..... so I dont line up the hole in the center

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm sure you let the water breath to get rid of the chlorine, did you pH it at all?

And just soak a few hours before planting?

And how do you keep track of which clones are from which strains. Make little flags out of tooth pics & stickey notes or something?

Nope water straight out of the tap.....soaked them about 5 min before I pulled my clones...just get the RRs wet a few times

do one row of each strain......right now Im just cloning bubbas.... in another week after they root i will clone some diesel

2 things that will speed up the rooting process

a heating pad http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HHO1RO/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

a temperature control http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NZZG3S/ref=ox_ya_oh_product ...set it to 80-85*F

Sorry it took so long to reply, I can't remember the last time I slept for 9 hours, must have really needed it.

Cool, no pHing, sounds too good to be true. lol

Get RRs wet a few times? The plugs came to me moist and I put the dome over them as soon as I opened the tray. Do I just soak them one time, wet them a few times before soaking, or wet the ones I've previously soaked to keep them moist while I soak the rest?

I already got the heating pad, asked them about a thermostadt and they said I didn't need one. Should have know, my BS meter was beeping like crazy. I'll have to try to pick one up today.

Thanks man, and good idea on keeping plant ID strait. Can you let me know about wetting the plugs when you get a chance. thanks.

Vapedg13, I just got a pretty valuable piece of info, I thought I'd pass it along to say thanks for the info you've given.

Mycorrhiza http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycorrhiza

If you read that you'll see that this is great for cloning and great to use the whole life of your plant to builder bigger and strong roots. And also to increase the plants ability to absorb and process anything you feed her. It doesn't stop nute burns, but if your girl's getting big and you need to get her more nutes than her roots can absorb, bingo.

Using it from seedling/clone and adding it to your watering regiment should help you get more from your grows.

It's not very expensive in Nurseries ($13 for a qt.), but it's way expensive at grow stores ($40 for a qt.). I'd suggest looking for it in your local nursery.

Thanks again for all your help, hope this info helps you out too.
