Club T5

Hi there peeps, I'm thinking of setting up a HO T5 closet (0.25m²). I'm running a CMH 150W at the moment which is finishing in a couple of weeks. Reading the threads on the forum I saw a few fellow whom using 6500K tubes all the way from start to bong. And here is what I'm thinking about is, if the girls needs the red spectrum for flowering 2700K 3000K, how is possible to be done with only 6500K. it's just does not make sense for me, how can it produce buds without 2700K or 3000K? Is it something to do with that the girls are auto or photo?

Here is what 6500K and 3500K Fluorescent spectrums look like.
You can see 6500K does have significant red / orange spectrum.
My assumption though is that if tested with the proper equipment the 3500K has more "power" in the red end of the spectrum, more "par" in reds if you will. :peace:

Ohhh Ok thank you, I got it now, as I'm visual, it's much easier to understand, now I should read more about these spectrums. Thanks

anybody has any info on Sylvania 865 T5 HO? all I found is 6500K 1850lm but could not find any spectrum chart?
I forget the name but i use the higher end sylvania which is the same as a phillips master 865. Still only £3 per 24w not much more for 54w 4fts. Can use full cycle or mix in a red for extra spectrum.

Right thanks for your feedback, I'm just checking the phillips you mentioned.
Are there anybody whom still using T5's in 2020? :) If so what is the current available tubes in nowdays? Looking the threads and googling the mentioned T5's most of them are discontinued. Also the webshops are mess with the product description. They do not provide proper technical details about the bulbs. Mostly I can find is Kelvin, if I'm lucky I might found the lumen, and that's all.
So what are the available T5 which is still on the market?
What I would like to achieve is, not changing the bulbs during the cycle. The fixture is a diy because of the closet, hence the 24W tubes. :) I plan to build a 8 bulbs fixture with this kind of setup, as the girls finished under cmh.

Do you guys have any idea? If you would start aT5 what would be your pick?

Lots use t5's still, they are very good lights and always have been. Here the units used are maxibright lightwaves and over in USA it use to be quantum badboys but not sure whats popular atm.

It could be the luxline plus tubes for sylvania but ge and phillips all do a higher end range that will suit growing plants well. I compared the sylvania to the phillips and saw no difference in any way, very similar same prices. Id avoud the blurple grolux's by sylvania.

Its all in the phosphor used, mainly the 865 covers all and gives the most light, reds seem a little to red/orange and generally avoid them. Tubes look white and so does the light with 865's. Avoid cheap low output or just cheap tubes, the higher end arent much more and use better phosphor.

Most units give close to 50w per square foot here, i dont need them very close, 10 inches seems all over great. Penetration is lacking so need to train plants but yeilds are good with quick vegs.

Strips and low end leds are getting popular for veg and even flower, same thing just leds claim light efficiency if your really wanting to be into that, a few watts isnt a concern for me if i like a light and style of grow.

I would go all 865 or one red to two blues if you have to but 865's will do full cycles. Trich terp and bud seems a tad nicer under t5's, the lights bring out a lot in the final appeal.

I have been using T5 for 6 years and would still use T5s for a 2ft by 4ft tent.I currently use a mix of 6500k and agrowmax pure par veg https://www.ebay.com/itm/T5-BULBS-T5HO-HIGH-OUTPUT-FLUORESCENT-LAMP-2-4-ft-GROW-BLOOM-UV-1-4-8-25-packs/160895821950?var=460631404886 only 25% of commercial growers use LEDs. 68% use HIDs and 67% use T5s at some stage.with horticultural bulbs you can come close to the absorption spectrum for cannabis grown in natural sunlight and the quality, taste and potency is close to what I get with my outdoor summer growth 1595170058722.png

I simply have a boat load of "regular" T5 3 foot bulbs. Not branded as for growing plants, just regular office lights Id imagine. They are 18w 3000k and 39w 4000k. I have boxes on boxes of them.

I use them in my veg space, trying to keep the plants within a few inches. I dont get stellar results but I never blamed it on the lights, should I?

Yes this is 2020 and I have come to 1 conclusion - A shit ton of growers are STILL using T5's in their gardens and we are just not seeing it here on the forums because they are busy growing plants rather than µmole bragging on the internet.
Still looking for an led that can match the growth performance and Natural Leaf characteristics that T5's produce on Greens grown indoors :peace:

So I just bought a 2 ft x 4 bulb T5 fixture for seedlings and clones, will this work for the first couple weeks before I switch them to a more full spectrum?
