CMH Light - Removing Ballast from All-In-One

I've been running a 315w CMH light for a few weeks and am having issues with heat. Currently running a 4" fan and filter, and my tent only has holes big enough for the 4" ducting. I'll be adding a 4" duct booster to run as an intake fan, to see if that helps.

I'm wondering about taking my hood apart in order to remove the ballast, allowing me to move the ballast outside the tent. Has anyone ever done that, or do I risk ruining my light? If this is feasible, and if anyone can shed some insight into what parts I may want to order to have on hand prior to taking things apart, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Current light set-up is the Vivosun 315w CMH vertical light - its exactly the same as Armour Shield and SinoWell 315w CMH (Sinowell manufactures all 3 of these by the looks of things).

Ive done it with a 400 watt mh back in the day when lights were harder to come by. got one of the fixtures for like a gymnasium. Your going to have to splice wires. If your comfortable with wiring it can be done safely. Some people claim and it could be true that it can cause interference in other near by electronics.

Some lights don't like striking an arc with an extension, sometimes using a heavy gauge wire helps.

Some lights will create RF interference when the connection to the lamp from the ballast is not shielded.

If you try it and it doesn't work just put it back like it was. I have never used one of those lights that you have so I have no idea how they are constructed.

Hey, I know this is a few months old, but I run those same lamps. I removed the ballasts and extended the wires. Works great. I also built 2 long boxes (18"x18"x12') to hold 4 lamps each. Then ran ducting in and out. The air travels threw both boxes and cools 8 lamps.....love it!
