Cob vs hid lighting

Yes, 2x 1kw gavitas. They are about the same as my single ended 1kw hortilux super hps imo, as far as distance from canopy and heat goes.

I even turn them up the the 1100 setting a lot. Still no issues. Meh... I think a lot of people here whine a lot about things they never try.
What hood setup where you running with the SE HPS lamps? Open, glass??

Both have benefits, but for me, COBs win out. I don’t have high airflow, so HID heats up the room too much.

Whoever said they use HID over LED because of the heat/fire hazard has it completely backwards. My cobs are running at over 100watts per cob and I don’t even hit 65c. I built my own lights with active cooling though. Several counties, including the one I live in, have banned HID for home grows because they have seen a significant increase in fires.

Its not that its using it to photosynthesize, but it will react to it. Adding UVB will raise thc about 20% relative to base line.

IR: plant wont use it for photosynthesis but it does act on the plant: it helps regulating transpiration and it will boost metabolism if the plant is not allready warm enough.

As for led vrs hps: we did a not really perfect first run, 32w /square foot of high efficiency led boards and got 1.7 grams/watt or about 50grams per square foot and we are expecting to improve more on this. Hps was less yield with more watts.

Both are good for growing, hps less complicated as long as you can control the heat. But a well designed and setup led will grow the same or more but with half the watts. But you need to be able to control environment completly.
Cobs hands down for me 800grams off 400 watts of light no brainer, dense hard potent nugs and use in summer without a.c !
