Hello.
Summer's over ...
( Was way hot ! )

Anyway ...

Bits of quick info ...

Starting from the 'blue/violet ' edge of colors ...

Blue/ violet leds ( 395- 450 nm )

Some power of these wls ,won't hurt the growing youngsters ...
Can be used into early flowering to enhance fragances and flavors .( some plants may also increase trichome production -slightly ..)
Avoid the use into late flowering as it really oxidises Α-Δ9-THA-C5A into CBNA -C5A ( and into CBN-C5 -after decarboxylation,of course..),really fast..
In simple words, it will darken-prematurely the trichome gland's resin content ...Sleepy weed, with low THC content ...(Good as painkiller, though).

Blue-Cyan 450-500 nm / Cool White 7000-6000K and /or Neutral white 5000-6000 K ( blue chip -yellow phosphor ,both types)

Your best friends during vegetative growing...
Protein biosynthesis is enhanced to the max .
( Feed extra nitrogen ( N ) at approx 3:1 weight nitrates:ammoniates ( NO3 : NH4 ) for protein biosynthesis support
and pay extra attention to Magnesium (Mg)/ Calsium(Ca) /Sulphur(S)/Boron(B) & Iron(Fe) ,as their deficiencies oftenly occur(99% of times in combination ) ,under heavy light (lots of power ) of the above mentioned leds . )
Better to keep Phosphorus(P) <50 ppm .

Use of wide angles is suggested ( >90° ).
Avoid great power/numbers of monochromatic ones.
If use whites ( Cool / Neutral ) ,use as much as different color bins possible
( I.e 4000-4200-5000-5100-5600-6000-6200 Ks' ,instead of 4 x NW 5000 K & 3x CW 6000 K ..Differate things as much as possible ...)

If you can take good care of feeding ,growth then becomes truly amazing !

Green-Yellow 500-580 nm

Must be there at all stages .
~ 20% of total power at minimum .
Use whites to supply those wls is a nice idea.
(usually it just comes along,no matter what...)
Avoid monochromatic greens or yellows .
They can cause 'weird' ,illuminated area isolated ,effects ..Weird effects..

You're messing with the 'anti - competitor plant ,anti- herbivore insect defence systems' of plant(S) if monochromatics are used,in that case.

Amber- middle reds 580-630 nm

The main "fuel " .Period .
Should be >30% of total power .Up to 60%.
Use Wide Angles.

Or Warm Whites .

Deep-reds 630-660 nm

Massive carbohydrate biosynthesis..

Means massive flowering and massive flowers .
Yet ...

It can totally ,absolutely F#(& up the vegetative growth of some species ...
Well ...They become really tall 'n' thin ....
Way tall 'n' spindly ..
Avoid exposure of young plants in such wls .

But Flowering is massive .
( always in combination with 580-630nm amber/reds or extra warm*, warm whites -*of highest CRI )
Should not be more of 40% of total power (alone ,those wls
-For the 12 hour regime of flowering.
If more in power, then additional FR ( 700-750 nm ) light should be used ...)

Edit : Don't forget to increase Potassium feeding ( K ) .Deep reds go side by side
with great to huge plant needs in Potassium .

See ya ...

well, can't always say I'm eye with sailor.. but I do respect most of this..

I've been in the mix of adding high CRI ( warm whites with more RED at 90 CRI ) and my instinct has lead me there. I used 4 out of 18 on each of my panels. don't forget, when comparing lumen, the higher CRI will always have lower lumens.... but it's not important, as red will count in lower, but nothing was "lost" , it was just transferred to other regions ( red )

can't say the same for the 660 section.. many many people using flower panels in veg with excellent results.. I've used many many panels.. and honestly, I think veg does need red spectrum. I'm not so sure I'm buying into more blue in veg, or the chips I'm using in veg .. I'm not liking the CW.. I'm liking the 4500k to 4000k region.. finding better growth compared to the 6500k spectrum.. although I have one panel with 6500k and 3000k and it is working well.

Hello SDS!
In asl24gp how many blue or how many violet can be used?
I would not use blue leds on these panels ...
Already ,they ' contain ' enough " blue wls " ...

As for violets ....

Approx -for my taste - 180-300 mW of light power per panel ,will do ....
Meaning ...
One violet ( anywhere in the region 385-410 nm ) led per panel ....
Not of the most powerful bins ..Better of average power bins ...
My taste,though ...
Overall ,should not be more than 1-1.5 Watts ( light power ) per square meter of canopy ...

How did you figure all this out?
Well ...

I was lucky enough ,during the summertime ,to be taught
-the basics only ,I'm afraid,but I won't stay there ..-
one ' secret ' language of plants ...

Scientists and specialists ,they keep learning more and more about it ....
And already have started to ' decode ' it ...

Electricity ....

( Where is life ,you'll find certain/specific electric signals/fields.. )

Now ...
Is that enough ?

Well ,no !

You need a 'machine' ,that turns plants spoken 'words' ,into something you can 'comprehend',using your(everybody's..) limited human sensory system.

A pretty expensive piece of equipment ...

Something like this :myscope.jpg...

A really good oscilloscope ...
And then a wonderful journey may start...

Trust me ...
Plants do have 'feelings' ...
Maybe pretty primitive ...

They fear/avoid "negative" ..( bad, pain, thirst, sickness, death, hate, conflict and many more)
They seek/desire "positive" ...( good,pleasure,food,sex,rock'n'roll,drugs,music,art,and many more )
"Trapped" in a "neutral" world ..
Pretty much like us ..Humans ..
Except ,that plants ,are way more intelligent than us ....
( S.Freud ,had indeed good knowledge about those two 'primitive' feelings, that
actually may "drive" / ' motivate ' towards every 'action' of every single living organism ..)

( Well ...We can go to Mars soon ...But still kids die of chemical bombs ,somewhere on this giant pot ,of a planet ...
And at Year 2013 AD , growing & smoking weed ,is a Devil's do...
Pretty "neutral ",but yet evolving little blue dot ,in the Whole ..)

Sh!t ...
..
Well ,I'm afraid that was the simplest of an answer,to your question ....

Now ...Have to go .....

Some friends are waiting at Andromeda ...

Can anyone tell me about the pink LEDs I've seen mentioned in other threads,I think it was one of the Astir threads.

thank you very much for your answer sailor!
maybe i should reconsider adding some violet bins to my panels..
maybe Ganja and astir can help me with this..:bigjoint:

Well..
Some pics ...

Three GD-SDS prototypes in action...
Underneath 'em 5x Super Lemon Hazes.
Towards the end of the 5th flowering week (closing to 9 weeks total ,from seed ).
260 Watts at plug ,all together ,regarding the Led lighting system ( 108 x Oslons & 9x buck CC drivers & 1x Main PSU & 6x Fans ).
All leds are driven @ ~ 700mA.
...
I kinda like'em ,still ...
Good for growin' Sats.

Stardustsailor, no offence but I don't think you have a full understanding of how light is absorbed by plants. Myself and I think other would love to talk about your thoughts behind such complete conclusions but I won't really just take your word for it, when you offer nothing but vague references to technical equipment and obscure quotes with loose and fragmented references. I understand if you don't want to revile your technical information behind your theory but I am becoming accustom to seeing these types of threads pop up, where we see some sort of magic behind a new panel, making them somehow better then anything else, which will eventually lead into the release of it.

I'm not saying this is your intention but it is seemingly apparent that's where this is going to lead to. You could say I am just trying to take a stab at you and your theory and yes this is true but I see no other way to challenge your findings other than to call you out. I would be happy to look at some of your findings and collaborate with your self but if you are not willing to revile how you come to such radically specific conclusions I don't you think you should be spouting it out all over the internet as fact.

AWESOME info again sir!
thanks
i was wondering about your stance these days on warm whites only
specifically the xm-l and xm-l2
do you think these would be enough on their own, and if not, what would you suggest adding to them and in what ratio?
thanks in advance for the help man

I suspect you could grow solely with warm whites and have great success. Personally, adding other whites for a broader spectrum is appealing to me. As well as adding some 660 in there. I'm sure you could find the ratios around here somewhere, there is no completely accepted "grow-all combination" concerning LEDs currently that I am aware of but I am sure you can find some decent guidelines.

I'm glad this thread was brought up again, I was about to revive it. How are you doing SDS? and your plants/panels? Hoping all is well!
