Comparing nutrient products in "side by sides" and "test grow" can be such a mindfuck

Man. I was so convinced that my Dyna Gro fed buds were not reaching their full potential in smell and taste. I was convinced that House and Garden was producing better buds than Dyna Gro although Dyna Gro was producing larger yields.

So, I smoked on some old Dyna Gro of the same plant I am growing right now (G13). My sister was sitting on some of the last of my DG crops.. The Dyna Gro buds tasted fucking great...

I don't know how I got convinced that DG was making buds less tasty... I think it was a mix of hearing SO MANY people say it was inferior along with me blaming my short comings on something other than myself.

Anyway... doing these comparisons can be such a mindfuck. It really has shown me how far you have to go with the double blinds and completely controlled experiment to really come up with anything that is worth anything (info, comparison, tests).

The MJ specific fert companies do not help the matter one bit by giving us incomplete analysis of nutes... feeding us bullshit... and creating this world of boosters, enzymes, enhancers, etx, etx.

Anyway... I can say that I have not done as well with Dyna Gro on my haze varieties.. But, I believe this is a grower mistake.. not a problem with the nutes. I just wanted to be clear that I go back on what I said about DG... It produces buds just as tasty and good smelling as any other I have used. (H&G, Canna, V&B, Miracle Grow, Guanos, others).

Better yields from DG than any other so far though...
I feel very strongly about only spreading good info and being clear as to why I came to my conclusion... apologies

The only way you can do a real side by side comparison is to have full control of the environment and be 100% dialed in...
Same age/size clone, same pot, same medium, same watering cycle, same lighting/distance, same temp/rh, same training..... and 0% mistakes or variables.
Usually only labs and really good grow rooms can offer this precision, but are bias to the company that is paying them ie. Advanced does this
And you would need a minimum of 3 grows for an advanced grower to dial in the nutrient to the strain as close to perfect...

Nobody believes comaprisons becasue there are usually to many variables to be precise

Yep. It's just not as easy as slicing your grow down the middle and trying one on one side, one on the other. Not for any real solid info.
I guess it depends on your standards though.

I think the biggest difference you saw in the old DG smoke was the age, MJ gets better with time, but most of use just can't wait out a full 6 month cure. I've sealed jars for 6 months. Pull it off let it air a bit. It's always much better than the same weed 4wks after the cut that I start smoking on.

I think the best thing to do with nutes is to stick to one line, and work with just the base units for a few grows to see how they work and then if you think you need a little extra help in a certain area add that specialized additive. But only do one at a time. So after a half dozen grows or so you'll have the feeding going the right direction on a regular basis.

I think when you feed them lightly, regardless of the nutes used, they tend to taste much better aged. Heavily fed, regardless of age, not so good.

Another factor thats not easily calculated are sweet spots. In all my grows I notice corners that produce all around better nugs.

I agree that the difference you maybe noticing is that mj is way better after a 6 month cure. Some strains taste like garbage till a 6 month cure.
