I mean no offense, this is a sincere question. What is the fascination with all this Japanese stuff? My daughter in law (early 20's) loves anything Japanese. Draws and watches only anime, drinks only Japanese sodas etc. To each their own, but anime and lots of Japanese stuff just seems real fruity to me....the spiky hair, big eyes and general weirdness
i d k about other people, but for me it was always the culture, you were always free to think what ever you wanted. i mean ad do to school talking bout transformers , and the jks would fall in . so before i knew it all my friends were foreign cuz in the us ( you guys got to admit stereotyping is a problem just re read your post ) and i was a geek , gamer (before gaming was cool) and i had a funky accent. so all the other people like me would spend our weekends playing counterstrike with Asians and watching anime. which ment at least my home life wasn't nearly as bad as when i went to school. and i got lucky and wasn't one of the small ones so i never got beat ( did a lil beating my self) , also the japs are small so they have this thing where they like to make power out of small things. i mean if you look at American cars to get 1000hp you need some chevy big block with a blower on it, but the japs all you need is 2.5 lr inline 6 with a lot of brains (still like German cars more tho. nothing beats a sexy as M3 hp and looks ) . this applies to every thing. there fighting styles . hell even there country .

Fine..... I'll bite....

Why do you consider yourself a Therianthropist Kuroi-chan?
I really wondered this too. No offense but a person cannot be an animal, thats only in books and imagination. Like if i had a choice id so be a lioness, got the hair for it and everything, but... Im a human, I can only be a human, I dont feel like an animal

Holy shit, even my room doesn't look like that. Wow.

Well, therianthrope in the modern context. The word was apparently adopted by some users on a werewolf fan site who came out and asked if anyone else felt they didn't just like wolves, but literally felt like a wolf. By the way, I don't take anyone seriously who literally refers to themselves as a werewolf, implying they think they are some magical creatures who can actually transform, or they are 'cool' like something out of Blood and Chocolate.

Ask my therapist, ask my grandma. During childhood I was beyond animal make-believe. They had me tested fro just about everything because I wasn't responding to stimuli in a 'normal' way. After learning how to behave 'properly' I had a severe depressive phase where I'd frequently lash out from pent up frustration. Little things like not barking in alarm, whining and yipping when in pain/surprised, not wanting to rub/roll all over people, not howling in public, not wandering off into nature, chewing things I shouldn't, suppressing feelings that I needed to have a litter etc. All the self denial gets to after a while. It's difficult enough not acting socially inappropriately with an ASD, but on top of that I constantly keep my wolf side in check. As I've otten older, I've found it easier to cope and find a balance. My family and friends are now (mostly...) totally used to the idea that my knee-jerk reactions may be a little unusual. Friends know I whine/growl in my sleep or may spontaneously tackle them and want to nuzzle them. Of course I usually only allow myself this with people close to me, or who are open. I've always been know as the 'dog girl' or 'wolf girl' in school, even though the human 'side' of me really likes horses and I tried pretending to be a cat when I was younger as some sort of diversion.

I'm a familiar presence on therianthropy forums and former staff on TherianWilderness. I got rid of some of the fluff ('Hey, look at me, I'm a shiny purple dragon and was an omnipotent magical overlord in five of my past lives!!!') People seemed to think that because it is a site that acceptsthe fact you believe yourself to somehow be an animal in your brain, you must believe everything. I was thiiiiiis close to being banned because I 'called bullshit' for want of a better phrase on members who would say they like the full moon, therefore they are a wolf, then say they think they are some freaking angelkin because of a twinge on their back the next.

It's harder being a wolf therianthrope because wolves are so often glamorized/romanticized. Ever member on a therianthropy board rushes in saying IM A BOSS ALPHA WOLF RAWR and then comes the expected 'Whoops, i'm a chinchilla' thread. I don't see the wolf as a separate entity like modern interpretation of a 'daemon' or 'spirit guide' influencing me. It is me. 'Me' has had to learn to balance. After all, I like processed food and video games as much as the rest of you and can't go around walking on all fours.

Admittedly, a kotatsu would be nice in this weather.

Cosplay has absolutely nothing to do with sex unless you decide to wear a suggestive costume. No different to dressing up as a popular character for Halloween or a fancy dress party.

True, sometimes photographers perve on girls at conventions, if they are wearing something suggestive or behaving that way. That wasn't a very well-founded or developed answer. I'm disappointed you dismiss something you are not so familiar with so brashly. Cosplay is what got me into more crafts and sewing. I've also met some really great friends through it.

I'm not sure what you're implying but I really enjoy making things. The fun in it for me is trying to accurately replicate the character in the parts of the costume I'm fashioning. A homage to the character. A work of art in motion.

Still wide awake. Time to roll a joint.

Hey, I've only seen one episode I got as a freebie at a convention, I also photographed this girl at the same 'con.

I have a Robotech box set ^^

I read my first manga (Ironfist Chinmi) when I was 8-9. I didn't know what it was, but I knew I liked the art, storytelling style and couldn't stop reading it. My mama also went to college with alot of Japanese, my uncle lives in Japan so he used to bring me Pokemon collectibles. The anime fandom is also the atmosphere at conventions, our own sub genre of Internet memes, a collective of sparky, quirky individuals sharing our love for anime. I have met some truly awesome human beings at conventions. I'm also a huge fan of Japanese culture. Everyone says this, but I actually am interested in Japanese food, language, history, art and traditions. I'm starting to look into Ainu, Okinawan and Ryukyuan culture too as it's a little more obscure. The relationship between Japanese traditional dress and classical instruments and Chinese dress/instruments like the pipa is fascinating. I like to compare and contrast looking at how they've developed over time.
