Coughing badly

I've had this happen and i don't smoke cigarettes. I don't like vape so I make sure my water pipe has ICE COLD water and I change frequently so never feel the heat of the smoke and expansion. Also, dry vocal chords actually could play a part in this conundrum. PINEAPPLE JUICE works wonders and is a well kept secret for singers in order to kept their chords from drying out and going into coughing fits while performing in smoke filled rooms. Smaller hits help as well. However, a chest x-ray to play it safe is always your best bet. Good luck!

Still sounds like a serious situation. Get checked out, you may find things you never thought of. I'm scheduled for 5 more surgeries in the next month, and could have avoided it all if I'd gone in instead of putting it off.

Don't smoke, it kills...
Don't drink, it hurts...
If you are sick, seek help, they work for years to get their jobs, and usually know what they're talking about.

I have cancer, found in 5 places so far. 4 are easily treatable, but all are caused by lack of medical attention. Could have been avoided, and now I suffer the consequences.

Go. To. The. Doctor.

Trust me, you'll feel better; the medication will help, and knowing is half the battle (G I JOE!!!)

do you smoke cigs? it happens to me and i hack up puddles of snot and flem out of my chest all the time lol something i got used to with the addiction

I noticed that there is a bit of trade off with water pipe high. Glad you caught on to the freezer trick, too.

ok ok ok obviously i needed this thread because i caught a cold(wife works at a college), we always get something around this time of year so i thought nothing of it. TWO weeks later i CANNOT hit my pipe without hacking is a betetr term not coughing, for fucks sake had i realized that these people had this much medical experiance i woulda thrown a shout out about this when i first joined here. Feels as if the cold settled into my lungs but i smoked (like an idiot) throughout the whole cold (helps me sleep i am bi-polar/ptsd/and suffer from public paranoia) so now i find myself with half my lung capacity, luckily i have insurance but i am scared to death of hospitals i have no idea why either fucken needles and the smell drive me into a panic attack for some odd reason. so it seems an chest x-ray is in order. Is there any way to tell if there's serious damage to our lungs before an x-ray? like symptoms? Ive smoked off and on since i was 16 and am 38 now, wow knew this day would come! nocigs and all i do is puff my cannabis! Op thankyou for hitting on a excellent topic!
Friend There are treatments for lung problems but you need to see a doctor asap. There was a time I was on 2 different steriod inhalers and a rescue inhaler and could still hardly breath. Now I still have to take small hits but I can breath again. Also cigs really, really effect your lung capacity. Please go to the Doctors.

aint been to a doc sense i was bout 8 or 9 and 32 now. i do want a vape tho.
Been happening to me for a while now man, I smoked a shit load of spliffs. Eating healthily and at the right times helped a lot, I got a vape which is great, I stopped smoking tobacco, and I got quite a bit better. I never really thought I was sick though, just the normal smokers cough from smoking for so long. So the decision is really up to you, but I have been feeling good and haven't been coughing or puking when smoking from a vape. When I go back to smoking spliffs I cough a shit load and feel pretty shitty. That's why I stick to my vape

damn there were a lot of pages, and it sounds like you're coughing pretty badly. I'd just eat the meds and stop smoking completely.................................. At least for a while

Well i saw my primary, turns out i had a nasty flu/virus that was going around my area( isuspect its mutated a few times before it got to me tho lol) i continued to smoke consistantly throughout the cold and suffered for it. I need to stop smoking 1/8th a day obviously. I am now trying to counteract every smoke session with an hour or so on the mountain bike or on a hike the following day to keep my lungs clear. I am happy to report total turn around. I cant lie i scared to death when the symptoms would not let go! I thankyou for you feedback and help, I would suggest to anyone with respiratory issue's of any sort to approach a physican and be HONEST about whats brought you there.

Glad you got better mate. Maybe you should allow a week for your throat to heal itself, ingest your medicine or something, cause it would suck if you had a minor problem with your throat and it got out of control over the next 2 months.

Well I strongly suggest you break a tradition and go. An ER visit. They will X-Ray you there and CT/MRI if needed. Go to the local public (or better yet teaching) hospital. Go to the Business Office after the ER and tell them you're broke. Not a new story to them. If it's the teaching/university med center you can probably go do everything on a payment plan or even free. Again do not lie about the pot and be sure to tell how the coughing starts. No doc or lawyer can do anything for you if they don't know the truth. They won't judge. Fuck 'em if they do. Esophageal cancer can be cured fairly easily if caught early.

BTW do you smoke tobacco?
While I agree he should get checked out, he shouldn't necessarily go to the ER.

1) It'll be way more expensive
2) He doesn't seem like he's emergent
3) It's probably nothing serious (I have bad acid reflux and sometimes have the same issue and I visit the doc a couple times a year at least -however as you probably know a proton pump inhibitor works magic for this problem and certainly he should possibly be on a stronger one)
4) If it is something serious going to a walk in vs going to an ER isn't going to net much different results except you will get X-rayed/cat scanned/MRI'd or whatever more quickly through the ER. But the chances that being scanned that much more quickly will have a statistically significant change in outcome are pretty slim.

If you really feel awful and/or are having trouble breathing, chest pains, can't keep any food/water down at all etc. Go to the ER. Otherwise I think a walk in and/or just seeing his regular doc is going to be a lot nicer to his pocket book.
