Could adding a more intense light cause nitrogen toxicity from the increased photosynthesis?

I’m almost in week 4 on a few autos. I’ve been having this clawing issue in my new growth that started to appear after this past weekend when I got a new light. I replaced a 265w (actual) COB led with a 200w QB.

Fora couple days, I left the light at 28in and then Monday evening I lowered it down to 24in. All of the plants have been exhibiting this twisting and clawing at the tops of new growth. No yellowing on the leaves, no spots, nothing I can see. Just this clawing and tip twisting. The plants are LST‘d so all the new tops are at equal height and did the same. I don’t have any shaded growth to compare. Yesterday I realized this and brought the light back up to 28in. and the leaves haven’t really responded to that 24hrs later.

I was beginning to think the QB was too intense but my tops were only getting a PPFD between 400 - 480 hanging at 28in. My canopy temp is at 78f and occasionally 80f if I leave my home ac off. RH is typically 55% - 60%.

My old COB light had a max PPFD between 240-360 in a small central area hanging at 18in. Now the plants are getting a bit more light compared to the old light.

I’m wondering is it right to think that since the photosynthesis has increased, they are sucking up nutrients quicker? Im almost in week 4 with FFOF and have not fed anything but a half dose of CalMag here and there. I’m thinking that maybe the increased nutrient uptake is causing the plant to have nitrogen toxicity from the hot FFOF and the addition nitro from the CalMag. Water ph has been 6.4-6.6 and my soil readings average 6.3-6.5. I’m just really confused about this and can’t find anything definitive about it on the Googles.

Bump. The plants seem to be clearing up on some of the lowest growth after moving my light up now that it’s been a day. I guess they are acclimating. Still curious about this however!

Mine have been doing the same thing on the new growth but after a few days they untwist and look great...6E6810A7-8C4E-4492-83E9-9E671208E5CC.jpeg

In a word - yes!

When they photosynthesise they drink more and therefore uptake nutrients faster.

One of the most important things in growing MJ is keeping your environment stable!!

I agree the lighting I had sucked balls and naners I finally got some good lights and they have been growing like crazy and drinking like a sailor ever since... You think the will level out they are in week 4 with the new lights. Or should I cut them back on nutes, they look great other then the dark green and slight curl on the tips of the fan leaves...

Look at new growth to see if still high N (leaf curl etc) If not then just keep the feed as u were. Use more when they have more foliage!

That's what is confusing there new growth is light to medium green in color the lower leaves close to the stalk are light to medium in color but the bigger leaves are the ones that develope the dark green color and slight claw after a week. I cocked it up to maybe the strain, which I don't have a clue to what it is these seeds are over 10 years old... Lol

It’s light green because it’s growing so fast I bet. Don’t worry.
