Could this ventilation setup damage/overheat a 1000w HPS?

Trying to figure out how to have a cool tent with a 1000w hps, now from doing some reading I want to copy someones idea, but just wanted to make sure it's safe for the fixture/lamp etc...

Many people do do this.

The whole idea of an enclosed reflector is that you pull cool air in from outside the grow room and as it passes over the bulb it "takes" the hot air out and blows it out of the grow room.

There is supposed to be no air from the grow room entering this passage, therefor no carbon filter is needed for this process, you only need a carbon filter for outgoing air that passes through the grow room. :)

Each to their own though.

I personally believe everyone should use their equipment properly/what it was made for.

The main reason that people don't put the scrubber on and move the air through using the air in their room is because they are using co2; if you are not using co2 there is really no need to have the exhaust of your lamp be in a closed loop. There is no reason that this set up should not work, just fine. I did however comment on one other thing in the other thread you have going.

You definatley want to switch the intake fan for the exhaust fan. To create negative pressure, the CFM being exhausted from the room should be about double what goes in (or roughly so) Any other way and the room builds up with air pressure and air is pushed back out the intake! A carbon filter becomes pointless then!
