Councilmember wants new rules on pot growing in homes... here we go again!

DENVER - The Denver City Council is considering an ordinance that would place far-reaching restrictions on medical marijuana grown inside residences.

"What this ordinance does is make it crystal clear that Denver wants very little marijuana growth in our residential neighborhoods," Denver City Councilmember Jeanne Robb said on Monday.

Under her proposal, only a medical marijuana cardholder could grow inside his or her own house. If there is only one cardholder in the house, that person could only grow six plants. If there are two cardholders, they would be allowed to grow 12 plants.
As it stands now, the cardholders would not be allowed to grow for someone else outside of the home, something that is relatively common right now.
Robb says the ordinance arose out of what she calls "numerous complaints" made against one home in her district in particular where more than 70 plants were found. The ordinance will be up on first reading during the city council's regularly scheduled Monday evening meeting.
If passed, Robb says the second reading and public hearing on the matter would be on Sept. 20.

Marijuana advocates are gearing up to fight the rule change.
"This is not reflective of the [Colorado] Constitution and I also think it's going to hurt patient access to marijuana," medical marijuana advocate Brian Vicente said.
Vicente, the executive director of Sensible Colorado, says he intends to rally support against the ordinance.
He says he believes residential grows are critical for patients who are in need of medial marijuana but, for one reason or another, do not grow their own.
"They don't have room in their apartment to grow or they have kids, and that's why they might want a caregiver to grow in their [separate] facility," he said. "[Residential grows are] a great way to keep the cost of medical marijuana low."
Robb says she is considering allowing caregivers to grow marijuana inside a home for patients, but that has yet to be added to the current form of the ordinance.
"These ordinances evolve. So I'm listening closely as to the reasons where perhaps at this point caregivers could grow," she said.

Please don't be surprised by this. Obviously, considering the NIMBY problem.... what do you expect??? There are NIMBY's that cannot tolerate a nieghbor operating an organic solar harvesting system... {a fucking clothesline}. Many of these NIMBY's actually think they will get electricity from a 350ft tall eyesore that would destroy thier property value if they were to actually see it.

IF you live in a neighborhood with satanic and un-American 'covenants' like : ShitTone colors only, 2 cars cannot be the same color, no noise or projects of any kind in the driveway/garage, no non-native plants in landscape {plant bigots/nazi's actually exist}, don't fart sideways, no obnoxious Halloween / Christmas displays, etc. etc.... then dont expect to be able to do much indoors either.

Hyper-Regulation is good right??? We told our politicians loud and clear last November that government isnt big enough, there arent enough regulations & laws and tyrannical interference in every aspect of our life is sorely lacking..

Is that 12 Durban Poisens in full glory 10ft high with 2,000 watts each... ?? Or is that 12 Popsicle bud S.O.G plants in a 6 cu ft space?? I can understand not overloading ones circuits. So if these 12 plants have 1,000 watts each + fans, vents, CO2 system, air pumps, res pumps and whatever else one might plug in..... that is a bit much for a small apartment.... and the grower is clearly trying to set their home on fire. Should big guv'ment protect that grower from himself????

If a law is necessary... which clearly a Liberal would say YES.... and a nanny state Uncle Tom RINO would say YES... then maybe it should have more to do with wattage and sq footage, than the number of plants.

They are trying to pass as many small laws that in time will add up to make it virtually impossible to grow unless you have thousands of dollars to pay in fees and licences and off site facilities. "big business"

might even be a backdoor deal with the dea, leave the dispensaries alone and go get home growers, eliminate the competition so to speak

I follow stories like this quite a bit. The whole country is evolving into a patchwork of regulations and permits, especially since the federal gov't is not setting any standards. The resulting unworkable system will tie up the courts until true legalization takes hold.

Unfortunately, as regulations evolve, a lot of people are going to be hurt. I have read numerous articles about people losing jobs, custody rights of their children, etc.-- even though they are 'legal' growers/consumers. Pro-legalization forces must become more sophisticated, and need to stop supporting every effort legislators draft that appears to 'decriminalize' marijuana.

That's exactly what is going on....dispensaries have MONEY and big lawyers to protect them to a degree. Home growers have little to nothing, and the DEA trolls will beat thier chests (like they always do) saying what a great thing they are doing. Great? Hardly. Go take down some crack head coke dealers that are trucking the devils dandruff up from south of the border. THAT would be a great service to the country.

Actually it just comes down to the people who are currently elected officials in Denver are trying to throw this whole system of Medical Marijuana distribution and manufacturing right out the window and make it all illegal.
Even though this shit is protected by our constitution, including being a private caregiver for up to 5 patients...and that includes the right to grow for yourself, and your patients...IN YOUR HOME, or anywhere else you damn well please.
They've already violated the constitution of Colorado by passing 1284.
So why stop there?

Damn Macguyver, lets roll to a town meeting and tears these turds a new one! Well said, As a private caregiver this is bullshit! Are the tax revenue dollars not enough they have to come into our homes? We need this council persons name and contacts. We put these shit heads into office for OUR best interests...they obviously are blind...we want our meds and to be left alone!
