Covering windows without arousing suspicion

I have windows all around my basement. I have neighbors on both sides with teenagers. My basement is unfinished.

How do I cover windows in a way that doesn't arouse suspicion? Right now I am using one basement room and have the window covered by a curtain and I believe it looks suspicious from the outside, so I have a piece of plywood leaning against the house outside covering it.

I want to expand the growroom to a larger area of the basement that has four windows.

Any strategies?

hang a nice curtain thenboard up the window or like me i added a aluminum insulated sheet and taped it heavily around the windows

How big are the windows? How far above ground do they go?
I wouldn't think curtains are suspicious but I suppose it depends on the neighborhood.
Tell people your into photography and you use it as your dark room.

your neighbors aren't worried about what you do with your basement windows. are you concerned with theirs? think about it

what do you mean by basement like a cellar or a laundry???

leave them where they are.
play a game of cricket or something i dunno but the point being find an unsuspicious way to smash the one window and board it up for a while. act like a slack cunt that just cant seem to get around to fixing it and board it up to stop wind and or rain comming in.

or if your building the basement just dont put the windows in there. or get windows that are hard to see through put curtains that look neat and tidy up so they really cant see in.

the photography is a good one but a hard one to keep up. dark rooms are really only needed for older cameras these days and there really for the enthusiast. could you pull that off. i spose you could say you preffer film to digital for some reason.

there are heaps of things you could do mate

thats what i was thinking and if they are there just nosy pricks who deserve a slapping lol. but there are plenty of them out there the mans on the right track.

listen bro none of us could give you a definitive what to do its not us in the sitcho. we can only rattle off ideas you gotta think of something that wll suit your circumstances. we dont know your personality or your lifestyle what we tell you to do could look suspicious cos its something you personally wouldnt do. (though you seem to have some morals id say) we dont know what your neighbours are like either. so if you choose a suggestion from one of the answers you get make sure it will suit your personality and lifestyle.

one last suggestion are the basement windows at ground level. plant a garden. maybe put a few pieces in there that will grow to look good and cover the windows.

I believe that making up weird stories draws attention.

I have a friend that always offers some weird explanation for things. Him and I were at the hardware store and he was buying a 250 watt HPS bulb in the lighting section and a worker was answering questions. Out of the blue my friend told the guy, "Its for my sons snake tank". It sounded so stupid, and it was completely random and out of the blue. The guy looked at him like he was crazy and by the look on the guys face, I could tell he didnt believe him.

Once we were going out to his growroom in his garage and he said (intentionally loudly so his neighbors would hear it) "Yeah, I want to show you that new ice chest I bought". It just sounded phoney and idiotic. He does it on impulse trying not to be suspicious and ends up making people suspicious.

i like the small garden idea if that is something that will work for that window. Otherwise just put up a curtain man. Like the one guy said you're probably not concerned with curtains your neighbours put up to cover their windows so why would they be concerned with yours. After you put up a curtain you may want to seal the window from behind with some ply or something to keep smell inside.

I use nice curtains that cover the whole window & then on the inside I hang a couple blankets over the top of that to light proof them. I even put shit on the window sills & it looks good to me.

i put is mini blinds and nailed plywood on the inside with black duct tape all around it cant see a thing from outside just looks like closed blinds

sorry if mine got a bit stupid i finally got my pain killers and sleepers ill be going to bed soon.

you didnt answer my question how low are the windows and what kind of cellar.

dont worry if your mates a noob im sure he will grow out of it so to say. though you should make him aware of his problem and help him change it. its only going to attract attention to him and then if worst comes worst possibly you.

not saying your mates a dog (a dobber) but ya never know these days... pigs can make all kinds of bogus threats and not too many people seem to be willing to tell keep there mouth shut these days and cop there fuck up sweet.

it sux i know but through prohibition. the government has made us into a bunch of dis honest people.

You can paint the windows(it takes numerous coats) or you can use 1 layer of aluminum foil to cover the windows.

I'd think a board looks more awkward than either of those. There are also pull/peel(sticky) films you can apply to windows, but they don't usually block 100% of light.

Im just looking for ways to cover the window so that it looks normal, not like Im blacking them out and trying to hide something.

'Trying to hide something' is not a crime, and doesn't make you suspicious. Neither is covering your windows. Most people do it.

I have numerous windows covered with foil. No one I know has ever mentioned it.

This is a really good idea. The problem I have with curtains is that they should have some light filtering through them to look realistic, whereas miniblinds block out everything. Awesome.

It is a full basement. On one side of the house the windows are at ground level. On the other side of the house the windows are about waist high.

We are converting the basement into an apartment. It is an ongoing project that I have been working on for three years. Fortunately my carpenter and electrician are both medical growers, so I can keep working on it while i grow.'

i would just put up cheap simple blinds and then duct tape cardboard around the window. seriously? you think your neibors teens are peeking in your basement windows? dont give them any reason to suspect anything and they wont be looking in your basement. you sound a lil paranoid, man, smoke another j and relax
