Melinda French Gates reportedly hired trust and estate lawyers in her divorce from Bill Gates, an 'unusual' move signaling that she could tweak their 3 kids' $10 million inheritance

  • Experts told Page Six that naming trust and estate lawyers in divorce filings was unusual.
  • The move could mean Melinda French Gates wishes to change the amount that her three kids inherit.
  • Bill Gates has said each kid will get $10 million, with the rest of the fortune going to charity.
Melinda French Gates named trust and estate lawyers in her filing for divorce from Bill Gates, according to a new report from Page Six.

The divorce lawyer Robert Cohen, who's with the firm Cohen Clair Lans Greifer Thorpe & Rottenstreich, is representing French Gates in the divorce. The firm has also represented former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Ivana Trump, former President Donald Trump's first wife, Page Six said. French Gates also listed the estate-planning attorney Loretta Ippolito and Bruce Birenboim with the firm Paul Weiss in her filings.

Ippolito advises clients on "complex estate planning issues," according to her profile on the Paul Weiss website, including domestic trust planning and the "disposition of appreciated property."

Trust and estate-planning lawyers typically help you plan how to leave your assets to beneficiaries upon your death.

Experts told Page Six that it was "most unusual for trust and estate lawyers' names to be listed on a divorce filing" and that the move could mean French Gates may want to change the amount of money that their kids inherit.

French Gates and Gates have three children together, including one who is a nationally ranked equestrian show jumper. Gates has said their children will inherit $10 million each and the rest of the couple's $130 billion fortune will go to charity.

Representatives for French Gates and Gates did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

The divorce lawyer Harriet Newman Cohen told Page Six that French Gates' move could also signal a sense of empowerment as she attempts to lay claim to her portion of the vast Gates fortune.

French Gates and Gates announced on May 3 they were ending their 27-year marriage, which stunned those in the technology and philanthropic worlds.

Reports have since surfaced detailing how French Gates started talking with divorce lawyers in 2019 after news became public of her husband's ties with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Gates and Epstein met multiple times between 2011 and 2014, according to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The New Yorker.

Gates said in 2019 that he had indeed met the financier but did not have "any business relationship or friendship with him."

It's good to be reminded once in a while that other people exist and that their rights trump our own when in their domain.

Otherwise, you get people running around inside private businesses hollering about their rights.

Bring back civics.

Yeah well call it whatever you want. I call it bias censorship, which is clearly evident by the fact that I was locked out of the thread simply for posting links to articles, while @rollitup's favorite troll gets to make posts in like this in the very same thread:

More whining, and the usual juvenile deflection.

"but what about that other guy?" here's what he posted! But you don't show what you replied with, which was worse. I deleted the offensive posts, and ended both of your ability to post in that thread for 1 week. That's all. I don't usually respond to whining like this, because it's not productive, and it will not stop you from posting offensive shit and then whining about it.

I troll antivaccers unmercifully because they kill people.
Down at the riverhouse I don't have paid TV. I have one of those el cheapo indoor jobs that pick up 5 groups of channels. One of which is a church thing. Sometimes I watch it because there is shit on TV, paid or otherwise. Anyway, the other night a preacher was ripping on the vaccine as dangerous, and covid19 as nothing more than the flu. He went on for about 15 minutes in this vein. If I had had a phone I would have called the 800 number on the screen to compliment them on the great work they were doing toward reducing carbon use in America. Not sure if he was trying, but he was helping with the problem of climate change.

So for all you hardheads out there. . . . . . . . Ditch the mask. Skip the jab. Screw social distancing. And save the planet.

I've been kicked off a dozen sites for having my point of view. I don't think I have ever encountered a site that is unbiased. You seem to think it is a bad thing. I don't.

Like I said, it is what it is. I get it that when I'm in someone else's house I have to follow their rules, or pay the price. That however, doesn't mean that I have to agree with the rules. Heck I think most of us on this forum who actually smoke weed understand that.

Oh you mean the post I myself deleted literally 2 minutes after I posted it, upon my own self-reflection of the post being in poor taste? I guess you saw that due to your admin status, but it was already deleted so not sure what you think you did to further delete it. You are a funny guy Rolli. It's all good my dude, your living room your rules. Do I have to take off my shoes when I come in the door, or are you cool if I keep them on?

Yeah, I take my shoes off on the front porch at my own house. A lot of people just wear shoes in their house all the time. Shit stains are bad, but I worry more about the residue from coolant/antifreeze and other nastiness that I would be tracking in my home. I don't know what Rolli's policy is however; I haven't figured out if he's a shoes off or on type of guy yet.

Well with the amount of your posts about vaccines that I think are straight up propaganda, I am guessing a shoes on kind of guy. But not so much if you start kicking his dog.

When I get told not to do stuff, I try to suck it up and stop doing it without pretending like I am not being told it for no reason. I don't like to add to the snow flaking about whatever trigger word for '1st amendment' troll people are pushing these days.

Your parents must be proud for raising a good rule follower. They likely even think that all of that indoctrination-type religion they pushed on you as a kid was worthwhile after all, seeing how you are such a good rule follower now.

Is this where you start calling me a sheep and pretend like you are not pushing propaganda?

Nah, I don't think that calling you a sheep would be helpful to anyone. As far as propaganda, it's always a two way street, but I'm sorry that you find information which does not automatically align with your way of thinking to be propaganda. Just remember that if you automatically discount every piece of information which you find difficult to believe, as propaganda, then you will never have a clear perspective.

You are confusing what I posted in the other thread (which I have been locked out of -- gotta love censorship, eh?). I'm fairly certain that I never said anything about Bill's association with vaccines. As usual you are lying again, and projecting things onto me that I never said, so yeah I guess you are just like Tucker.

You're the one with a hard on for Bill, not me. I simply said this, and it turns out that I was right:
yeah! you spread completely DIFFERENT lies and bullshit about vaccines.

like any garden variety right wing retard would do
