Curious how many watts would you use in 5x5 with quantum boards.

This is only my second run with with quantum boards so I am still figuring out how much to use to max out my 5x5. I always see people say 30 watts per sq foot is good but is that the minimum or is much more than that too much?

Right now I have two 220 watt boards and a 315 cmh in my 5x5 that I just flipped to flower a few days ago. I was thinking about taking the 110 watt board out of my 2x2 and put it on the end of one of the 220's and buy another 110 watt and do the same thing on the other side. That would give me 330 watts of quantum board on each side and the 315 cmh in the middle at 39 watts per sq foot.

If I just keep what I have it is 755 watts total right at 30 watts per sq foot. I'm thinking the 2 extra 110 watt boards will help cover the edges but what would you guys do?

I would add them.

When I just did the math it is actually 44 watts per foot (I forgot I added boards to my drivers) , usually 18 to 20 inches. I only had bleaching problems when they would get less then 12 inches from the lights. I haven't had the strass issues from the lights like I used to with HPS and CMH lights since I switched to QBs -but I do have something in my grow room that not many people use these days. I use light movers, it is a diy rack that all my lights so there are no hotspots

Unless you're supplementing CO2, I don't think that the plants will tolerate max photon output.
When I would try and run them over about 850 watts, the tops would bleach.
That was with the fixtures at 18" above the canopy.

I was worried about that but I was thinking I could dim them or raise them higher if needed. I scrog and the tent is 7 feet tall so height isn't an issue.

Dormgrow just sent me a G8LED C2 560W and its recommended to place within 6" of the canopy. I usually keep it between 13-18" and even though lux doesn't matter that'll give ya around 45-55k running that wattage. I run 830W now in a 4x4 @16" and im around 45-65k

6 inches seems pretty close but i have read strips can be closer so maybe thats why they recommend that height.

What kind of yields are you pulling?

But I'm really liking the looks of these new lights that use multiple long strips to get good coverage over larger areas.

I already have two 220 watt boards and a 315 cmh so Im not starting from scratch.

I just ordered another 110 watt from Alibaba to throw in there and will take the 110 watt from my 2x2 in a couple of weeks.

My 110 watt light from Alibaba should be here in around 10 days and I can take the 110 watt from my 2x2 in about the same time. Ill throw those in the 5x5 with the 220 watt qbs and change the cmh bulb from the 942 to the 930 once the ladies are done stretching. Should be a pretty nice harvest in 10 weeks or so.
