Custom Grow Cab with 90w LED Tri-Spec UFO

I would say you don't need to mist them that much anymore. Rather mist the surface of the soil instead of concentrating on the leaves. Most of the development is happening below the soil at this point. The stems look normal. Only worry about thin and spindly, weak stems. The purple can be a sign of slight Nitrogen deficiency, but i'm not sure at such an early stage of growth, and some strains display it purely from a genetic level. I don't think your soil is too hot, it would show in the leaves.

Patience is required in the beginning stage coz the plants are establishing themselves to begin proper vegetative growth once through the seedling phase. When that happens u'll feel the rewards quicker as growth rates increase.

I recently bought a 90 watt all blue ufo for vegging from ebay and I must say I'm impressed. The seedlings are really doing nicely. I see that at 2.5 weeks the first test seeds, my homemade Blueberry X Adam Afghani X Burmese Pure (4th generatrion stable) are healthy and very fast with very tight internodes. Light is on 24 hours and I must say it does put out some heat but I have temps stable at 80f. I don't use humidity and because it's very cold here now and the furnace is working hard the humidity is 25%.

The best part is that the 2 Automatic Hindu Kush that popped up yesterday doubled in size in 8 hours while I was at work and look extremely happy.

Im damn curious to see how that 90w LED performs for ya. Unfortunately my current closet grow will be my last indoor grow for many years. My first child is due in a few months so Im laying low for a bit, then maybe some outdoor guerilla growing

But when I get back into the swing of things, I bet LEDs will be the only thing real die hard growers will be using. They are just now starting to make breakthroughs and Im sure you will be further proof of that.

Wow, what a difference already... I'm justice in awe of nature at its best =)

The babies are growing very well, around 1-2" tall.. The autoflower is the tallest and in the middle of the cluster with all 4 true leaves fully sprouted.. the 6 other bag-seeds are still developing their other two with the exception of maybe cup #2 whom is growing very quickly..

So early I had a scare with the roots possibly coming out of the holes I poked in the bottoms of the 16oz cups for drainage; however, the reports were for the moment false. Lets just say my old lady needs some thicker glasses.. she damn near scared the daylights out of me thinking that the roots were hanging like wet pasta from the bottoms of the cups! But to my amazement, I saw nothing... but then the thought occurred to me.

What if the roots started to come out of the drainage holes?

So I'm now in the market for a smaller cup to place the bottoms of the current cups in to protect from any light damage if the roots do indeed come out.

How long do you think I could keep them in the 16oz cups? Long enough to tell sex!?!

the reason I'm wondering such a variable related question is because with the current 90w UFO I'm afraid that if they out grow the cups, the cab is not rigged for more than (4) 3 gallon pots at 1 time, and that was before the humidifier... and if I transplant into say (7) 3Liter plastic pots, the volume of space they would occupy is so great that the seedling that isn't directly under the light will be gasping for light... right now I'm wondering if I bit off a little bit too much than I can chew with regards to this light and its foot print and possible sooner issue its penetration.

Thoughts concerns on lifetime in a 16oz cup??

i just read the whole thread. i really like your grow set up. you put alot of work into building that box. very nice. i'll deff be watching this grow andi can help to answer any questions although im not the guy to ask bout led, irishboy is the man on that topic.

**UPDATE DAY 15 PICS**

Temp. and Humidity are holding at 79°F and 54% respectively

The light is an even 12" away from the tops of the plants

Cups have been rotated and raised with coasters so that they are all equal distance from the light.. also cup #6 is no longer with us... a moment of silence for that strong lifeless soul... and moving on.

Installed a new custom built shelf for the plant to set upon.. allowing the water and humidifier to be safely stored beneath.. holes have been drilled in the center of the shelf to allow humidity and air flow to flow from beneath the plants themselves.. see pics


Questions I have...

the leaves on the autoflower are rigid and stick up and down and simply look awkward to me.. any thoughts? see pics

Some, if not all, of the bag-seeds have what I would call under-developed leaves... should I worry or are they simply still working on developing their real leaves?

The perlite in the tops of the cups, I've noticed, is turning green.. see pics... is that a sign of anything negative? or just a common occurrence?

Lastly, I know its still very early, but I took some close ups in attempt to see some early signs of sex... anyone see anything that I don't? To be quite honestly I don't know what I'm looking at haha..

how sit goin.

the underdeveloped leaves i wouldn't worry bout. they are still young and will mature over time. plants won't be showing sex for a while. the auto should show within 3 weeks from sprouting usually.

i'm not sure what could be causing the leaves to curl on your auto. anyone have any input on this??

keep a watch on the perlite, it may be turnig green from algae. not a good thing. could cause root rot and infection or disease. just keep posting pics.

Joan I like the look of your setup and your plants look like they'll do fine, have you used LED's before? I'm thinking about getting some for a closet, SCRoG, hempy bucket grow. Let me know if you think they're worth it. Good luck!

i just got your message. went to new orleans for mardi gras with the gf. pretty wild down there. saw some cool stuff and some not so cool stuff, esp on bourbon street lol. anyways how is your drainage? and temps? maybe the soil is holding to much water and that may be waht is causing the perlite to grow algea. also what brand is it? not sure if that matters but ya never know.

***UPDATE DAY 25 PICS***

Temps and Humid. still holding beautifully..

the little babies started to get a little yellow, needed to be transplanted a few days prior to when it was actually done. The autoflower shed here first two sets of original lower leafs and the 1st real set of 5 spaded leafs started to lighten up, and thus she and the other babies were transplanted. However, the autoflower was transplanted to a 3gal potting bucket, and the 5 bag-seeds were stack transplanted in there original cups on top of a 44oz cup filled with the new soil mix. this is to conserve space seeing as how 6 3 gal. buckets will never fit in this case. I'm praying I can determine sex before they become to big I have to ditch them =(

Some of the leafs on the bag seeds look to have 7 spades instead of 5... slightly odd looking.. also two of them are long and taller and two others are looking a little fatter I would say...

And, the Miracle Grow Organic Soil I purchased, was MOLDY!!! it was ridiculous, I did not use it obviously, I substituted the 17cups of MG Organic for the Light Warrior because it was the only choice I really had at the time

I'll take some more pics soon, sorry for the small amount

also, the perlite seemed to not be so green after I looked at it several times more.. I think it'll be just fine

lookin good man. that soil was moldy for sure. might wanta use a micronutrient of nitrogen for the yellowing. or just use a little epsom salt with the next regular watering. i think 1tbsp per gallon is bout right.

Sorry I defiantly missed an update or two, was out of town with work and extremely busy. But happens to the best of us right? For most of us thats just the same shit with a different shovel.

anywho, back to the journal I got ya.. this update is for day 35.. although today is day 42 (half-way point), I'll post an update for day 43 tomorrow.

Day 35

Temp: 78°F
Humid: 61%


Transplanted 3 of the 5 bag-seeds into 3gal. pots, cups 1,6, and 7... into the new soil mix.. this time mixed with new MG organic that was non-moldy... and watered with a half gallon or so of molasses water..

Cup 5 wasn't looking so hot, so I chopped her top and super cropped her to get the feel for the process... I really beat her up.. and she was standing big and tall the next day.. pretty impressive I have to say


Autoflower is @ 17.5" tall
Cup 1 is @ 10.5" tall
Cup 6 is @ 10" tall
Cup 7 is @ 9.5" tall
Cup 5 is @ 5.5" tall


The Autoflower currently has 22 individual bud sites .. I clipped off a dying leaf that was shading a bud site and clipped one fan leaf that was shading close to 5 or 6 sites.. didn't want to get to crazy with clippings.. just trying to let her do her thing.


One this is for sure, I NEED another 90w UFO or simply a 180w... the little 90 is having trouble covering the canopy and penetrating deeply at the same time.. it's like on or the other.. this set up would be perfect if I had just the 1 Autoflower.. but it seems I've bit off a little more than i can chew for the moment with this light

Hey dude I really like the led grow cab!
I was wondering if your going to install a fan on the inside to blow on the plants? Is it not necessary to do it because of the LEDs and not HID?

Wow.. so it has been a very long time since my last update! Let me start off by saying im sorry to keep you all on the edge of your seats haha

I didn't take that many pictures from about day 35 through about day 70.. I was just simply too busy to snap pics and update the journal.. but I'm making an effort now to try and save the journal if you will


***UPDATE DAY 84***

Autoflower stands at 2ft 2in

the pics are from day 70-72... temps. and humidity levels have been constant however; for the next grow I'm defiantly going to use a heat mat to heat the roots and soil of the plants.. the temps. were a little low for my liking.

The autoflower began to show hints of amber under a 30x scope as of day 81... so I began to choke her out on day 82, after her lights went off so she never woke up.. I plan to harvest and trim on day 85.. I'll have an update after that I promise

As for the 3 remaining bag seeds.. the lights were turned to 12/12 as of day 83... I'm hoping to see some signs of sex within a few days... and hopefully on of these bushy monsters will be a female!
