Dark Leaves Spooking Me

I took this clone 5 weeks ago and its growing like crazy but I'm noticing that the leaves have been dark. The plant I took them from was nitrogen toxic so it makes sense that it started out that way but the new leaves seem to be 50/50 light/dark. The recovered new growth on the mother plant has the same exact thing going on. I am not feeding any liquid nutes at all, just distilled water in both pots. Soil is FFOF. Am I ever going to see regular green leaves again? BTW leaves look a bit dry because I'm currently battling fungus gnats with neem oil.

Should balance out as new growth emerges.... older leaf shows heavy nitro reserves.
Might help push growth actually..... FFOF will feed that plant fine by itself. Even on TAP WATER.
But I think it looks fine.

Grab some sticky pads for adults. You can also use Spinosad ( capt. jacks bug brew ) or a pyrethrum based product .
Watch your watering ( wet conditions) , you can also adopt a bottom watering solution too.

Some substrates get infected before you buy it , from shipping , warehouses and storage areas. So the potential is there to bring shit home.

Every time I think they are gone I find another one. Never a lot just one or two. Yeah it was definitely from the soil cause it is way too cold outside for any flying insects here. Haven't seen one today though yet. Might have to get some sticky pads if I find any today. Here is a pic of the clone at 1 week since it was cut. You can see the same 50/50 color. Also dull color from Miracle Grow. FYI to other newbs, don't use that garbage soil.

So with regard to when to start flowering, should I just wait until it is full bonsai and the branches are all able to be tied down? This technically would be equivalent to 4 weeks old right because one week to revert to veg since it was taken early flower? So maybe 2-4 weeks more veg?

Just eyeball when they’re as big as you want them. Tough to say without knowing how much room you’ve got. But probably more than 2 weeks unless you want to keep them small.
