Stealing

Well-Known Member
After years, there's a smell a grower senses that's always right on the money.
Just like almost any fruit, vegetable, etc . . . it's just something time will give the dedicated enthusiast.
Had I not stopped by RIU, I'd have not seen the X amount of "ya gotta see the trichs" posts and definitely would not have spent any dough on this RadioShack hobbie scope.
The window of perfection is probably quite a bit wider than many realize, however one can always grow it longer, but can't grow shorter, so keeping an eye on things (trichs) isn't a waste of time, especially if your only reason to grow the strain you're growing is related to the buzz you 100% expect.

I think I know what you mean.. When my weed was first maturing, and the hairs just starting to turn brown, my crop smelt more like tangy/fruity.. kinda sour and sweet at the same time. The buds were somewhat loose. Yet now, it just smells really heavy, almost like fuel, or something heavy like that. The hairs are 85%+ brown and the buds are more sticky, resinous, and more compact.

I think one can tell the "window" by all these different indicators. Namely smell, hair colour, and bud thickness. If it smells kinda fruity, with few brown hairs (maybe on 25%-50% of the buds), and before the bud starts to "thicken" and get more compact, this would be the optimum time. Overall though, the trichomes could tell you exectly when to harvest. 90% milky/cloudy would be the time for the "up" high.

I personally like to harvest some bud early, and some later. So if any situation would call for a certain type of weed, I would have either.
