de-smoking an 8000btu portable a/c

so i bought a used 8000btu portable a/c for my growroom. unfortunately the previous owners were a pair of cigarette smokers.

i don't particularly want to smell up my grow room. i've begun taking it apart and cleaning it...the black junk that comes out of this thing is quite disgusting

i've seen a few products that are like foggers meant to be used inside of cars. you turn on the a/c or heater, and set it off and let it run through the system.


does anyone have experience with de-smoking something like this?
