Dealing With Immune Thrips

I'm hoping to at least get some reassurance that I don't have to deal with this forever...

I grow in a garage and while the windows and doors remain closed, there are always Thrips that move into the room in the second of entering and exiting... I've been dealing with the issue for 2 runs now and just can't remedy it.

These Thrips appear to have an immunity to all the general pest control I've used. I will give them a spray with full-strength organic contact insecticides and they'll happily continue away without any noticeable drop in population numbers.

I've tried the following methods for control:

- Neem Oil (Foliar +Occassional Soil Drench)
- Pyrol (Pyrithrin)
- Insecticidal Soap
- Sticky Traps
- Diatomaceous Earth
- Predatory Mites

I've used all the above so far, spraying every 3 to 5 days. And I just can't get rid of the population... I cleaned out my tent, sprayed everything thoroughly, defoliated and 5 days later there were tons of new adults in the sticky traps. I just can't think of what else to do about the situation.

It's worth noting that I have a mother tent and a flower tent in the room, so I can never really have a thorough clean while I have the mothers.

I'm thinking of just culling the mothers (maybe just take new cuts and keep them quarantined until the room is sterile).

Any conventional approaches or something I may have missed?

Firstly a lot of people think they have thrips but usually have misidentified them.

Could you post some pics of your sticky traps with them on?

Secondly if you have no flowering plants I would recommend HOT SHOTS NO PEST STRIPS.

leave all fans off for at least 1 night cycle when introducing the strip.

repeat up to 4 times during a week locking the strip in a zip lock bag when not being used.

do not stay in your area for long when the strip is out on display.

make sure you check all the adverse effects before using.

(when all else has failed hot shots no pest strips are my go to and I have to import them as I live in the U.K.)

they are carcinogenic as the active ingredient is DICHLORVOS so use with caution.

Another good product is anything with SPINOSAD as the active ingredient.

Monterey garden insect spray

captain jacks dead bug

conserve naturalyte

All contain spinosad. (Again I have to import mine when I need to restock)

Safers soap
Green Cleaner

You need to alternate them to eliminate immunity
Living in South Africa, the products available seem very limited in comparison to what one finds overseas. I haven't even been able to find Spinosad here. Haven't heard of the two mentioned above, don't think they're available on the market here but I'll take a look into the ingredients and see if there is an analog here.

Having a bit of a thrips resurgence myself. Spinosad as was mentioned but even that may not do it. Pylon is prolly the only food safe product that will really do it. However I’d only use up to 2nd week after flip. It’s translaminar so only need to spray tips of leaves which may be why it works so well. Thrips seem to hide pretty well underneath the leaves and veins when spraying.
