Started one of each in the B. Bugbee soil mix-50/50 peat and vermiculite + 40 grams of dolomitic lime + 10 grams of gypsum pellets. Watering with 1/4 tsp Jacks 20-10-20 cirtus feed per gallon of water. EC reading 1.3. Watering/feeding when plants are dry and light then soaking until we get good run-off, around every 6-7 days. 18-6 light schedule.
Deathstar Auto is growing robustly I topped it today just above the 3rd node, day 12 after sprouting. I was already seeing side branches at all nodes.
Fast Critical appeared stunted from the get go, it was really tiny and I saw no growth for the first 6 days. On day 7 after water/feed it started growing and now on day 12 has 2 nodes and appears to be ok. Similar thing happened the last time we grew the fast critical, plant looked poorly and then caught up and actually ended up being the best yielder. I was concerned though and ended up buying some conventional soil just in case.
This will also be an experiment on the effects of topping an auto. I grew the Deathstar before without topping and have a good idea on how they grow, we shall see how she does.
In the interim we will be growing a Kosher Kush and Godfather OG photoperiod in some Happy Frog Ocean Forest potting soil [since I have it on hand now what the heck].
I am very curious on how the 2 soil mediums perform, I'm rooting for the BB mix as I now have a lifetime supply of lime and gypsum.
I realize this is neither scientific or accurate but it will be fun.

Here are the plants at 15 days from sprout.
The largest one seems to be suffering from nute burn but is growing rapidly with side branches at all the nodes. This is the one I topped.
The other one appears to be healthy if maybe a little deformed on the first two sets of fan leaves. It is catching up.
Both plants are getting identical treatment. I'm thinking I will knock down the EC on the next watering to 1.0 and see how they do. The soil PH tests out at 6.0 so I'm happy with that.
So far the 50 50 peat to vermiculite medium seems to be working pretty good.
Still trying to germinate the other 2 strains, for some reason my beans won't pop.20210708_192213.jpg20210709_073859.jpg20210708_192223.jpg

Mix a little soil with some distilled water and let it sit for an hour and then check.

We are on day 20.Last water/fertilizer I decreased the EC to 1.1. The Deathstar seems to have recovered from what was ailing it and is growing rapidly. Today I LST'd it. The Fast Critical is also growing well. It has really short internodal branching and is starting to get bushy. I think I will let it do it's thing without topping, the last ones I grew were pretty bushy. The Deathstars on the other hand wanted to send one main cola at the expense of the rest of the plant. I swore next time I would top it which I did. I think the results speak for themselves.
USU's Bruce Bugbees soil mix is looking pretty good.
As for the second part of this experiment, total fail so far. After 9 succesful germinations in a row with the paper towel method I am now 0 for 4 on the second batch of seeds. Seed company has responded and new beans are on the way.

Day 28.The Deathstar starting flowering a week ago. Looks like the Fast Critical has started pre- flower.
Both plants are being treated exactly the same, identical pots and grow medium, I fertilize and water them at the same time with the same solution. They share the same light. Interesting how the different strains are reacting.
Deathstar is growing rapidly but looks sickly like it's on the ragged edge of disaster, I think it may need some cal mag. The Fast critical is bushy and vibrant green, almost looks like a cabbage it's so dense, one of the healthiest plants I've ever grown.. I am surprised at how different the 2 strains are reacting to the grow medium and fertilizer.
I will continue to stay the course.
Once again I am using 50-50 peat and vermiculite with 40 grams of powdered dolomitic lime plus 10 grams of gypsum pellets per cubic foot of soil. Fertilizing with Jacks 20-10-20 1/4 tsp per gallon for an Ec of 1.3. Watering till I get aprox 10% runoff about every 5 days. I may have to increase the frequency as they are growing rapidly and I suspect the deathstar might be hungry. Last time they were dry after 5 days, it had been 6 days. Will have to keep an eye on that.20210721_093146.jpg20210721_093136.jpg20210721_092527.jpg

Hi! hey one small dumb question. Did you start feeding right from sprout or did you wait? Im doing the same, but I only started to feed EC .8 after the cotyledons came out (and increased to 1.3), how about you?

I started a week after they sprouted. I started at 1.3 then lowered it to 1.1 for one feeding and am now back to 1.3.

6 weeks from sprout and they're starting to look sexy. Deathstar stays on the ragged edge. I think I have her solved though, more nutes less water. Upped the feed to 1.7 ec on her. Fast critical seems pretty happy at 1.3 ec.

Pacificseedbank. I know a lot of people diss them but I have had good luck with their seeds so far.

They popped out of the dirt on June 23rd, that would make them 2 months old today. Deathstar I just don't know what you want, that is one ugly plant. Critical Fast looking real good. Staying the course with the Jacks 20 10 20 at 1.3 ec. The other part of this experiment was Kosher Kush and Godfather OG in Fox Farms Ocean Forest. Kosher Kush is 1 month old today. GOG has some drainage issues which I hope I fixed. It is not quite a month old and we hope will be feeling better soon. Pictures are 2 by 2 Deathstar, Critical Fast and Kosher Kush.IMG_20210823_091325 (1).jpgIMG_20210823_090758.jpgIMG_20210823_090638.jpgIMG_20210823_090753 (1).jpgIMG_20210823_090805.jpgIMG_20210823_091341.jpg

Coming up on 9 weeks of flower for Deathstar and 8 weeks for Critical Fast Bud. Still feeding them jacks 20-10-20 at 1.3 ec. All of Deathstars fan leaves have died. I am left with some dense green larfy buds. I broke one a couple of weeks ago fooling around with the l.s.t. ties so I dried it and cured it for a week. My wife and I tried it out, whoa! I am impressed very potent. Critical Fast is getting frosty. It looks like I will harvest it in 2 stages as there are a lot of secondary colas that show potential. The bud closeup is Critical Fast Bud, needs a couple more weeks at least I think.
