Deciding training techniques

So after my 2nd ever grow which was disappointing yield wise ( 7 plants 13oz). I had a long chat with a knowledgeable shop owner who suggested not tying them down so much and fimming instead of topping. He hsaid to fim at 5-6th node then let new growth grow out and repeat the fim on new growth 5 or so times. And also to remove all lower growth before flower so just have the many top colas. Just wanted advice on what your guys opinions are on that training advice. FYI will be around 8 week dwc veg under 300w cfl then 2x600w hps for the last week or two before the flip 12/12.
Apologies for the long winded question!!

Indoor?
What light , medium, pot size?
More info the better we can assist.
FIM is a great technique, lst keeps them short, but mostly for indoor grows.

Your yield can vary dependant on genetics, environment, and growing techniques, to many factors, to narrow down cause of small yield, some would be happy with your haul, still success in my books!

Hi thanks for the reply, the grow is indoor using 2x600hps in the flower
Growing dwc so rockwool sat in 6 inch netpots in bubble buckets i did lst and top once last time, ive been told if im going to remove lower growth i need more tops so fimming more than once will bet better

I manifold my plants and the yield has been incredible. I dont think it is manifolding per se but vegging a long time creates a big hearty plant and big yield.

The issue becomes how to manage it in your space and most of us are height limited inside, so we spread the plants out using various techniques.

I only really have 1.8 meters of height i can use from the top of the bucket so techniques that flatten out the plant + give good yields are attractive to me. I was thinking of manifolding but i might just have a go at what this guy told me first do you think from my brief description it seems like an ok training technique

Is this your first time using the 2 x 600W HPS?

If so, I would recommend you forgo all training, and just do a grow without any hacks at all. It's the best way IMHO to get an understanding how the plants behave under such lighting conditions for the first time.

Make notes and take dated pics that relate to the notes during this grow. Before its even over, you'll be telling us what you came up with for plant management for your third grow.

If I didn't have high humidity issues, I wouldn't do anything to my plants, at all. Because I do though, I keep the under-canopy very clean and open for airflow, top at least twice to keep the canopy even (again, for airflow) and do tie branches down to the pot, for airflow purposes, again. If you don't have such restrictions, again, I say let the plants be and see what they tell you.

Some plants grow differently some techniques will work better on some plants, as well as what you prefer. It is good to try a technique over and over to perfect it but also try different ones to see what you like to do best.

I am lazy so I just top and do a small amount of LST

This will be my 3rd grow using 2x600w hps so i do understand how they grow under them temps and humidity are all down its just getting a good start in veg was aiming for like .75-1g per watt. Hopefully with a 8 week veg and 1200w that should be possible

Slight re hijack of my own thread but i have attempted fimming for the first time, thoughts on how it looks 1st pic is a fim after 2 days 2nd pic is just now

You missed. Need to cut a bit more off next time and just leave a bit of nub on top, cut more of top shoot so there is still a little bit of nub. You can do it again before it grows out. Your in right area just a bit more off, so more off top leaf that is sticking out of the tip.

Yes redo asap, cut more off of top, see too much leaf still, you are basically cutting off those leaves and leaving the little nub still there to grow back, you just clipped the tip of new growth when you need to almost remove them.
Sometimes takes a few tries to get it right.

How would you say they look now?
