Yeah all those kids watching that neo-socialist sesame street.. Something has to be done.

By the way once you give the tax money over.. It isn't your money it's our money.

I say Public broadcasting is a defence against information Tyranny.
It is a needed counter to profit driven media. We need a fair and balanced news media and only having for profit sources means we will get the for profit view of things only.

arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority. 2. the government or rule of a tyrant or absolute ruler. ...

In common usage, the word "tyrant" carries connotations of a harsh and cruel ruler who places his or her own interests or the interests of a small oligarchy over the best interests of the general population, which the tyrant governs or controls.
With 400 people in the USA worth more than 1.5 million combined we already have enough injustice and it keeps getting worse.

I admit I don't know about those guys.

I think what Clinton is saying is we are full of ourselves when it comes to spreading the Gospel of America.
As a Libertarian, I agree, we should not be meddling in world affairs..............in a perfect world. Unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world. Spreading propaganda is always viewed as an important part of winning "hearts and minds". WWI and WWII changed how the U.S. approached foreign policy. Have we always acted in the best interest of all parties involved? I think you know the answer to that one, but I digress. I believe it's time we "pull back" and re-evaluate our position at the world table and ask ourselves some tough questions. Are we willing to still play "world cop"? Are we going to continue the massive amount of foreign aid we are giving to some of these countries? Where will our place be at the world table with rising economies like China and India? What about the military? Do we maintain a strong defensive capacity and what will our approach to armed conflict be, especially in an era of rapidly evolving military technology? I could go on for hours, but you begin to see the enormity and complexity of the problems we face. The world is constantly changing and if we don't adapt to that change we are in trouble. The problems are many and getting rival political factions to agree on any kind of fix seems like pie in the sky. With every stroke of the "legislative pen" it seems like the world becomes a grimmer and more depressing place these days. Should we really be making all of these laws and regulations to protect morons from themselves? Sorry, I'm rambling now..........

George Washington warned us about standing armies and the effect on American Democracy.

We have not learned from history.

I truly don't believe in regulating anything, we all should have the right to do what we please, but in a free market there are people who will take advantage of others to better themselves, some people say its driven by greed others say those people have the right to do what they please. Wall street Fucked us up pretty good, why? Because of bush and cheney tax cuts for the rich and for deregulating the market.

The years the people had with Regan as a president always praise how prosperous our country was but in reality it was only good if you were wealthy, the middle and lower class suffered

In all reality this is the government we have and the only truly thing we can do to voice our opinion is vote

We have not learned from history.
I'm not aware of George Washington's warning about standing armies, but I am aware of Ike's farewell address in which he warns of the dangers of the "Military Industrial Complex". How prophetic! It indeed appears that we have this out of control monster dependent on death and destruction for its sustinence. However, Pandora's Box has been opened and we are no longer isolated from the rest of the world. We have become addicted to all this "stuff" which many other countries (mainly China) produce. When interacting with foreign cultures there will be disagreements. Most of these are resolved through diplomatic channels. Sometimes they are not. Every once in a while, when the conditions are just right, some charismatic person rises to power, making promises of a return to the former glory of the state. Without some way to defend your country, how would you stop such a madman? Grand ideas without solutions or addressing the obstacles to them is all fine and good. There are plenty of folks with great ideas and the noblest of intentions. Unfortunately, it is a rare individual who has the courage to tackle those obstacles and acknowledge the difficulties.

In all reality before this Democracy, we were pretty much nothing, We are surrounded by animals all trying to accomplish the same goal, survival. I truly believe all this political bs is exactly that bull shit. its just all made up, plants are able to survive for many many generations without democracy, without all the shit we have in our lives.

But on a real level, at least here in the US we are entitled to a voice, and to voice our opinion, if you support republicans, independents or tea baggers its fine. ill just vote against you because that's all i can do.

besides we are all the same, just help each other out.
Yes helping each other is a good thing. What type of volunteer work do you do?

Humans are not the smartest species in the Universe!

We could do so much better with the planet than destroying it for an imaginary substance; money.

Rep. King Opens Hearings on Muslim "Radicalization" in U.S.

democracynow.org is covering what may be a revisit to McCarthyism and the unamerican activities while advancing the fear factor that Islam is radicalising in America.

The last time I checked it was Constitutional to have extremist points of view.

So are we seeing a rise in a specific kind of violence or are we manufacturing consent to go after one category of Americans.

Muslims are Americans too.

How can you be so sure we aren't the smartest creatures in the universe? We haven't exactly made contact with any extra terrestrial civilizations (at least I haven't). It's not so much the money that people are killing one another for. It's the "stuff" and the "power" that money buys and/or represents. Money is nothing more than rectangular pieces of paper, or a series of 1's and 0's in a mainframe somewhere. Since people enjoy comfort, status, toys, power, shiny objects, fast things, etc. it's not difficult to see why people are killing one another over an "imaginary" substance. Not saying it's right, just satying it is.

My Favourite quote from a Movie called "Men in Black"
Edwards: Why the big secret? People are smart. They can handle it.
Kay: A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.
It's the way we allow destruction to rule when we all will agree we want something better.
I know we cannot prove it either way but it isn't going to hurt to disapprove of what we do and see it as the mark of dumb people. If nothing else it helps us make an effort to improve.

Democrats only have an issue with corporations being allowed to spend all the money they want broadcasting their message because they are usually supporting Republicans. Unions spend most of their political funding to help Democrats. I'm sure the Democrats are ok with that.

One might point out to you all that the United States is not a democracy.
In a democracy the majority has complete control over the the minority, and is basically unfettered in their power. In a lynch mob there is only one person who votes against the lynching, and that is the person being lynched. The majority rules completely and the person is lynched. This is the best way to describe democracy.

The USA is a constitutional republic. Our constitution protects the minority from the majority rule. This is whether it be race, religion, creed, standing, money ect. In a constitutional republic, activities not only go by majority, they are then checked by the guiding constitution. The lynch mob in this scenario isn't allowed to legally lynch anyone because the minority(the lynchee) is being protected by the constitution and has to be tried and proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt before punishment.

If the democracy and the republic were the same thing, they wouldn't have different names.
