Diary of a SCROG Addict Part 2

Hi guys and gals,

Thanks for stopping by..

This is my 2nd attempt at a SCROG..

I have 4 strains in this grow, they are...

1 Church - 1 Mazar Kush - 2 Big bud x Northern Light - 2 Lemon Skunk.

Im using Canna terra professional plus soil mix with 250w M/H and 250w HPS. (Now both HPS as of 6th Nov)
My screen is nearly 5ft x 3ft and was a shelf unit for a green house in its last life..

I'll be using rain water, and advanced nuts (grow and bloom)

Today is the first day, whereby the plants have been placed under the screen and doesn't look too pretty at the moment..

(The pics below were taken on 30th Sept)

Not much differance to the eye but some of you eagle eyed veterens will see I've slightly moved the plants to fill the screen more and to balance it all out better than it was.. hopefully..
I think its still going to be a few days before these girls get their knickers out of a twist but am hoping for some rapid growth after that..

At this point I feel I should explain my lighting scedule, bulbs and timing, basically what its all about..
As you know im vegging to fill out those screens so 18 hours of light is needed.
Im running two 250w ballasts that run for 12 hours each..
1 with M/H and 1 with HPS, My idea is that the MH comes on first then 6 hours later the HPS comes on too, 6 hours later after that the MH goes off and then 6 hours later still the HPS then goes out.. (Hope that didn't melt your brain too much....sorry)

I have a couple of reasons for doing this...
1st is the electricty bill, since becoming a hobbie farmer ive constantly looked at saving energy, this ranges from CFLs being used in the house to switching the kettle off before it switches itself off as it starts to boil.. and now lighting scedules such as discribed above.
Secondly is the spectrum the bulbs are giving off, I read somewhere that using both MH and HPS gives a wider spectrum for you plants to use.

(Pics below taken 9/10th Oct)

At some stage I'll have to get on my hands and knees for a while to trim under the canopy... But that's about it at the moment untill I figure something out..View attachment 1875655View attachment 1875652View attachment 1875657View attachment 1875659View attachment 1875656View attachment 1875654View attachment 1875653View attachment 1875658View attachment 1875651

Few below pics of how they are coming on....
Yesterday I added fish mix and as always on each watering i add seaweed extract...
The Church since losing most of her main stem seams to be lagging behind now, so im hoping she'll pick up soon enough.

I'm sure I can manipulate the larger plants by more LST or FIM to slow them down.

Tomorrow the girls get a Brazilian as i clear away some of the growth underneath the canopy. Hopefully get a couple of nice clones from each strain..
this will also give me a chance to start pulling down those branches and train them for their own individual space or square.. This can sometimes take a while if your baked but is most satisfying to say the least...
Think i may have mixed up my dates above... The pics below were taken 26th OCT
Also a pic of the clones that I took, All have rooted and are ready and waiting to go,

You can see one pic of the wet roof i have at the moment...

The plants that are around the screen is:
1 Amnesia, 2 Cheese, 1 Lemon skunk and 1 Church.

8 weeks flower will be on 14th December (Chances are they'll want longer as the temperature drops in to winter values)

Changed the second bulb to HPS.

Some or most people grow up to the screen then start to train them, I however had to lay the screen over the plants as they'd grown to high and over a couple of days and nights they eventually gave way to the screen, Ideally you'll want to have the screen ready for the girls...

Best of luck mate..

Well, I'd say you've a couple of weeks before introducing the screen... But never too soon to start thinking about one, best of luck with your grow.

Lookin good for sure. Is the Amnesia your stretchiest plant? I've always wanted to try that strain but hazes kinda scare me away, too small and too long to flower em. And for the others asking about screens, there's lots of ways to scrog. Scrog in veg then flower, or just scrog once you start flowering... 2 inch holes, 3 inch holes... lots of choices you just have to decide what works best for you situation. I'll be in tune J.

Hi there, I stopped by your grow, very nice i must say..

The Church wasn't a bad smoke to be honest, but the Amnesia was excellent, really tight buds and a real nice taste of them, I dont think they stretched that much too be honest.

Man, talking about different ways of scrogging, one great example is Lilidians grow:https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/457855-one-man-his-bush-1-a.html

Here is more pics...

I have noticed one corner isn't growing as well as the opposite corner, i think this is down to my intake fan is and blowing cold air straight on to my girls, Ive made a make-shift deflector for now but i think the damage has been done.. Poor Amnesia..

The last 2 pics shown the temp and RH of inside my shed and inside my grow room (Lights on for 1 hour)

Leaving the door open slightly last night made a huge difference in drying out my shed..!!

Just a quick update on hows things are going...

View attachment 1885812View attachment 1885814View attachment 1885815View attachment 1885816View attachment 1885819

I've 6 Lemon Skunk and 3 Mazar Kush Clones ready for potting up ready for the next SCROG....

I think the plants I've put around the side was a good move... Next time I could possibly train the same plant under the screen to grow vertically around the sides, could be difficult to get the right screen coverage though...

Happy Daze....

About 3 and half weeks...
The temps are getting a little cool with the lights off at 13'c, (55f) I'm hoping it's not going to slow the girls down too much..

Yea be careful. My root zone fell below 60 last crop and seriously bent me over, like 50% harvest weight. The tops can take some cold, the roots are a little more sensitive, esp depending on the strain.

I found out last year myself... Not to bad but it defo slowed them down...
I've found 12v waterproof heat mats on eBay, they're for pets bed.. Think they could help if I placed it under the pots..?

Yeah, or put styrofoam under the pots if they are on a cold cement floor. And then add a little heat with a heater or dehumidifier depending on situation.
