Difference in hydroponics and aeroponics

What are the main differences in aero and hydroponics I know aero is supposed to be really efficient (from a nutrients standpoint) but I would imagine hydro is very similar in this respect. What would be the pros and cons of each (I understand the basic concept just wondering why you would choose one over the other)? I am interested in making a small automated garden with one of these methods but would like to go the simplest route to make sure I don't fail and lose interest.

With aero, the roots are sprayed with small droplets/mist of nutrient solution.

With Hydro, the roots either sit in a highly oxygenated nute solution (DWC/ deep water culture) or a flood and drain system, where the roots get flooded with nutes on a timed basis, and then return to a master resevouir tank awaiting the next flood cycle.

A system like the oxypot is probably most simple, its deep water culture hydro, but accidently has elements of Aero too.
