Dipping harvest in water??

Hello friends it’s me! Back for another one. So I’m gettin close to harvest and my cuz just did n he said he dunked them in water. I’m wondering what’s the point and as I’ve never heard of this process, is it normal practice and does it make a difference if I don’t bother. Any info Is appreciated.

Hey, new here and i have read/seen videos about this.

Its mostly done as far as im aware if you noticed any possible bug issues during your grow.

Most ppl use two or 3 tubs, one filled with water and hydrogen peroxide and the others filled with water (one to rinse before the peroxide , followed by the peroxide dip and then into plain water again)

IMO if you haven't encountered any bug issues it's not really needed

Only time lve ever heard of washing weed is bc of powdery mildew. Thats usually a peroxide bath to kill it before drying and curing. Other than that lve got no clue. Best of luck on your crop!

Do you clean your produce before you eat it? Same concept...
I wash them at harvest in a 3 bucket system. First 5 gal bucket with warm water, 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of lemon juice mixed in. 2nd 5gal bucket has warm plain water and then a 3rd dunk in the last 5gal bucket with cool clean water. Dunk and swirl 20-30secs in each bucket. Avoid making contact with the bucket. Shake excess, repeat steps for next two buckets. Hang to dry like normal.

Not saying it is for everyone and every grow...but at the end of my grows, my tent is fucking dirty. There is a thin later of dust and shit and God knows what else on everything. I gotta clean my fans, lights, walls, trays, humidifier, floor, hygrometer, cables...fucking everything, right?...if I gotta clean all that shit, it ain't no problem to take 20min and wash my bud too.

I've heard some people say washing your buds may also prolong the drying phase...Although I live in a dry climate, I did not find that to be the case...In more humid conditions I would suspect this could have an effect. But like anything else in this game, what works for some, does not work for others.

Thanx for the explanation. For the sake of arguing tho...lol... I clean my produce cuz it’s known that pesticides were used and many other random people have access to them to touch on etc. they’ve been in processing factories and trucks, on the ground. In the dirty back room of grocery stores and more. My weed been barely touched by anyone but myself. I’ve had no bug problems just a few gnats that be around the house. My tent isn’t that dirty cuz I been cleaning it from time to time. I wipe my walls and floor off every feed. I’ve had to wash the filter sock a few times. So it’s been a fairly clean space the only thing that I see I should rinse for is cat hair. It’s not a lot cuz I keep them out the space for the most part but hairs will be blowing around and I’ve picked off hairs I see stuck to my buds.
I will prob do a two part rinse. I’ll do one with some hydrogen peroxide in warmish?water and then a cool fresh water rinse. How’s that sound? Feel like water would only help any hair to stick tho...

I clean my produce because I don't know where it came from. Maybe the same for outdoor grows where you can't control the environment and pests. Clean indoor grows there is no need.

I tried it once with 2 bucket and rinse, first bucket water peroxide mix second warmish water third cold water risnse with nozzle. Completely destroyed my terps they were all clones so I know what they were supposed to be like, JS

It also gets rid of dirt and any little hairs and anything else that's found it's way in to your crop.
I use potassium bicarbonate instead of baking soda in the first wash tub. Followed by peroxide. Followed by plain water in two tubs. I also only use lukewarm water. Cold water will make trichomes brittle and some could be dislodged.

The potassium bicarbonate works better than baking soda and lemon juice to kill any existing pathogens and will kill off any un-germinated spores that could cause any post harvest problems.

Potassium bicarbonate should be used while your plants are growing as well. It will kill and prevent powdery mildew and bud rot.

In the end washing buds, especially outdoor grown stuff, makes for a much nicer tasting, cleaner, and smooth smoking product.

I live in the desert. There's dust. That's why I said "concept" ....not because I don't know what's on it but because I want it cleaned off.

Peroxide baths are mostly intended for outdoor grows. Esp desert areas. Dust dander hair dead shit. Skin. I mean. You fucking name it. It's in the wind. I highly advise bathing outdoor after harvest.

My first year outdoor. Was HOLY SHIT dirty.
My lower buds were larfed and my larf looked like dirt clods. Trash.
Lost a shit load to hash. (Had alot of hash on a cleaner note). Dirt clogs everything in silk screens and micron bags. It's a headache.

It doesn't extend the drying time.
I wash and then hang them on a clothes line to drip dry. It only takes about an hour or two. Here's one plant drip drying after being washed last year. The wash tubs are on the ground in the right hand side next to the table we piled it all on.
After washing each branch they were hung up and left to dry. When we were done I laid down in the hammock and started rolling charras off of my hands and arms while burning a joint and drinking a beer. Two hours later every one of them was back to the way they were when they were cut. After that initial clothesline dry they were moved to the drying space and slow dried for over two weeks. And everything came out great!

Incidentally, just to settle an argument about losing potency due to dislodged trichomes, I ran all of the wash water from the different plants through some of my bubble bags (220,190, and 45) the first two showed why they should be washed and in the 45 there was a small amount of hash. Each time was a very negligible amount considering the size of the plants. Like I said before, just use lukewarm water so the trichomes don't get brittle and everything will work out fine.

I do it every year till this day now. And iv never even thought about running the wash buckets itself. Just assumed it was mostly mud. Lol

Yeah it's not much but it would be lost otherwise. I think it was around three grams out of over eight pounds when I was washing the sour banana Sherbet plants. Sonow it's an every time thing. Waste not, want not.
