Roseman,
Are there any threads on how to mix nutes with a system like this? I am clueless with all this stuff. Like I really do not even know where to begin. I think I know something and then I feel like I know even less.
Im doing a soil grow right now with only 2, an A and a B. Age Old Organics Grow and Bloom. Its easy enough but I cant stand waiting.
Do you currently only use CFL's for lighting? I was thinking of doing just one 5 gallon bucket for now. Any recommendations on how to do this?

Thank you for this awsome thread.

do you use the air pump with the submersible pump? or just one or the other. I have an extra pump that I would like to use, it is a sub pump. I have an extra manifold and hose, I would like to do something with it. Thanks in advance

The AIR Pump is outside of the tank, and is pumping air to airstones or air difussers, that are in the water, in the tank.

The WATER Pump is in the water, in the tank, and it pumps water enriched with nutes and oxygen, to each plant.

Nutrients are just Nutrients or just FERTILIZERS, for the most part..

You use a HIGH Nitrogen Nute for VEGGING, and a High Phorphous Nute for FLOWERING.

I use 100% CFLs.

IF you are starting with seed,
get a 5 gallon bucket, cut one to three holes in the lid for the grow cups, (I would do 3), and go to Lowes or Home Depot for the LIGHTS.
Get the two pumps, from page one of this thread, and make a grow cup, or 3, and you got it.

Thanks man!!
I know what kind of ferts to use, But isnt there like so many additives that go in also? Where can I get a PPM meter? What does the inside of your 5g look like? (or will you have to kill me?)? lol

I only use LIQUID KARMA as a supplement ro aditive to my nutes. I use pre-measured, pH balancing nutes from Stealth Hydroponics, tht are made just for CFL grows. Found here: Stealth Hydro

I got my ppm meter at that same link, at Stealth Hydro. Give them the words GROWTIPS and get a 5% discount.

Inside that 5 gallon bucket is nothing but a 12 inch long Aquarium air stone, from Walmart, attached to a cheap Aquarium Air pump.

You also need a Irrigation Hub, also called an Irrigation Manifold. Many different ones can be found.

DiG Six Outlet Irrigation Manifold DiG Six Outlet Irrigation Manifold
Price: $12.99 420Budman showed us one that Lowes has, he said:

The brand name is MISTER LANDSCAPER. It is in the DRIP IRRIGATION section (even says "drip irrigation" on the package), the technical name for it is PVC SPRINKLER ADAPTER (that is on the package too), the item# is 191779, and the model# is MLA-RA9, and the cost is $10.73. My local Lowes had about 9-10 of them in stock.

Rain Bird Landscape Dripline System 2.0 GPH Manifold #MANIF2-1PK
Available at Bizrate.com, Amazon.com, and Home Depot for $4.99 to $5.99

You connect that Irrigation hub or Irrigation Manifold to the pump, and run 1/4 plastic tubes from the hub to each grow cup, to look like this:

You can use an 8 gallon tote as seen in above pic, (with 6 gallons of water) or a 5 gallon bucket, with 4 gallons of water.

You need an AIR PUMP:

$12.99 for Dual or two airstones

VERY Quiet, $9.95 to $19.95, depending on size.

Any place that sells Aquariums has them, like PetCo, Pet Smart, Walmart. They will have the airpumps and tubes and airstones.

There are 6, 8, 10 and 12 inch long airstones for aquariums, like this one:

Airstones are $3.99 to $5.99 depending on lenght.
You can also find round ones, and long AIR DIFFUSERS that make large curtains of air bubbles in the tank.

OK, I can understand the air pumps, bubblers, lighting. etc.

Now if im doing a 5g bucket with 4 gallons of water, the irrigation manifold need to be out of the water, correct?

Is that hooked up to the same pump at the air stone?
How do you connect the manifold?

Thanks,

Yes, the Irrigation hub or manifold is in the Tank, and can be in the water or in the air pocket.

Is that hooked up to the same pump at the air stone?
How do you connect the manifold?

Thanks,

The air pump and water pump are separate, and different, the air pump pumps AIR to the Air Stone. The Air Pump is outside the tank, the air stone is in the tank.
The water pump is IN the water, int he tank, and ti pumps water to each cup.

Thank god I got to that before you hopefully read that and went...wow.... =)

I'm very very impressed with your system. It looks flawless. Your buds look unbelievably tasty!

OK. Are you using the bubbleponics with clones? Or just growing and seeing what happens with the sex?

How deep before you have to destroy any males? All the way to beginning of flowering stage?

On clones you already know the sex and with seeds you wait till they flower and pull the males quick when they show. No other pratical way other than female seeds and that still not sure fire although I've never had a fem seed herm or be male. Some say 12/12 them so that they show sex but that requires a couple of weeks anyway plus the transition time back to veg.

When I grow from bag seed or regulars and males show up, It's a bit of a problem to remove them from the res but not all that hard. It's ok to cut the roots of the remaining females by half. They will grow back stronger for it in many cases. I use hygrozyme to clean up any dead root material from the cutout but a couple of good flushes will work also and your weeks ahead of where you would be with early sexing.

Amen to what MostlyCrazy says!

When I made clones, the clones made smaller plants with less limbs or branches and nodes.
I start with seed and expect 50 - 50 males-females.

The Bubbleponic thread. Well Roseman asked me to drop by and show you guys my very easily maintained and very easily and CHEAPLY built DWC system.

It requires 1 10 gallon tub, I got mine from WalMart for $3.50, got an Double line air pump from Walmart too for aroun 12 bucks, 2 air stones or bubble stones, and 25" of clear plastic tubing. All for aroun 20 dollars total.

The local grow shop had my water pump and I didnt necessarily get a manifold, but instead I got black plastic tubing, very flexible, and small 1/4 in. feeder lines, including a very nice timer, all for around 35 dollars, the timer was the most expensive piece. Hydroton, Net pots, 2 drain plugs and plastic tubing, aquarium silicone (from your local Lowes or Home Depot) on top of that, AND YOUR SET.

IT REALLY IS THAT EASY!

So guys lets get down to the construction, and it only took me a couple hours, keep in mind to soak your bubble stones in water according to the directions.

The first step I took was to cut a hole very close to the bottom of my 10 gallon tub for easy emptying, so I can clean it and refill it weekly with my nutrient solution. Put the drain plug in, seal it with some aquarium silicon and set that aside to dry. I cut three large holes in the lid, with an exacto knife, so I can sit my net pots into the lid, with my rockwool cubes and hydroton.

I also cut two small holes in one of the corners to run my air tubes and power cord in and out for the bubble stones/water pump.

I used two bubble stones because I wanted to make sure that the water is HELLA Oxygenated because I dont want to have to fight Root rot later on.

You can also use 35% food grade Hydrogen Peroxide in case root rot sets on.

Fill with water, check your PH, add your nut solution, stir it up, and plug it in, thats how easy this can be made and for very cheap.

Now of course I use a 400 watt MH/HPS grow light and use two fans for ventilation/cooling.

I also feed my plants 3 times a day for 15 minutes each with the water pump to insure that my babies are well fed before the roots hit the solution.

I keep the water level 1/2 in - to 1" underneath the net pots so that when those strong healthy roots hit the water BOOOOOM, explosion of growth. Here are some pics and if you have any questions then please feel free to check out my bubbleponics grow, and please comment/constructively criticize etc.....

The last two pictures were also taken right before I cut three paper plates to fit around the stem and feed line, I cover them to reduce any excess light that may want to find its way into my tank. And the way I made my feed lines was a simple tube punch, or sharp object to make a small hole in the main line, coming off of the water pump, and insert the small feed off lines into it.

Hey Purpdaddy, Roseman or anyone who can help. I am currently using the SH DWC Buckets that I have changed into bubblers. Each system is separate, no central resivoir. My isssue is I am getting huge ph drifts throughout the day. This is the first time I have started from seed in this system. The seedlings don't look quite ready yet for nutes so I am just using ph'd water. I am using city water that has a starting ph of 7.5, (so using the SH PH Down) i bring it to 5.8 and a temp of about 70 degrees figuring that light heat and pumps will naturally bring it to about 75-77 degrees (which it does). Now by the end of the day the PH of the water has drifted back to it's normal out of the tap ph or a little higher (7.5-8.0). Temp inside my tent stays at 80 degree with 28% humidity. Anyone have any insight as to why my ph drifts so much throughout the day....? Please Help!
Thanks
