You wanna do both. Lots and lots of topping during veg. Top , then top those 2 tops, then a couple days later, top those 4, then 8, 16, 32. Etc. Then once you've got a lot of tops to give you your yield, it's at that point that you raise up your light high as you can, and get them all to stretch out loooong. Usually I try to flip them as soon as I see decent, equal length amongst them all because they go crazy and explode in length during the stretch those first 2 weeks after flip.

Well I decided to jump right in and start saving money right away, so as soon as I built my single board light for my veg tent this afternoon I took down the HPS in the closet and put up the big light. I did the switch right after the HPS went off for the day. It is really bright. I doubt it’s gonna have much effect on the yield at day 43, but I’m really interested to see how it compares with the HPS when I chop these plants down and throw in the next batch of clones. I don’t think I’m going to spread out the canopy as much on the next batch, and try to encourage more longer colas.

You did a really good job though even with what you have there. All I can suggest is more light, spread out. It drastically increases growth when you have your lights spread out across the whole canopy rather than single points of light, reminiscent of the HPS that was there before.

Yeah I think I'm going to start raising my lights during flower I had some breeder rec(55 day) all the way to 77 days lost 2 tops to mold, I think some of it was due to low lights :(

Breeder rec? I have a hard time deciphering this post's meaning exactly... Haha help?

Dude I typed this up, and erased it cause it's so off topic and random. I then decided to post it because who cares lol.

I got some mold in my top buds and I'm not sure if it's cause I had lights too low which caused minor foxtailing. My buds were so dense, not sure if it's from over ripening or the minor fox tailing. My little tent never gets humid or wet.

Again random idk thanks, cya.

Oh yeah, the breeder claimed 50-55 day flowering, I let it go actually over 80

Personal preference. I’m a professional carpenter/woodworker for my day job and I had a shitload of maple and mahogany. I took my inspiration from a high end guitar amp head with a maple cabinet, just without all the super time consuming dovetail/dowel/mortise and tenon joinery. I played with doing it out of angle aluminum and keeping it open, but all that drilling/screwing self tappers would have been brutal with my carpal tunnel. One day I’ll teach myself to weld.
Wood looks rad!
Love your work!!!

Yeah @Airwalker16 all those plants were just topped once and trained through the trellis. I’m going to start mainlining stuff that I grow from seed although I don’t know how I would mainline a clone with alternating branches. Once I get a lux meter and know exactly how much coverage I get I’ll know more about how big I can make the canopy, but that area in the closet is only about 7.5 square feet.

The only way I can raise the light up more is by taking the ratchets off.

Ita not that hard to mainline a clone. You can DEFINITELY still TOP clones

Yeah that’s what I was getting at. I thought mainlining was when you topped in a sequence that makes everything split symmetrically off a single node — like a tournament bracket in reverse. I just can’t figure out how to get that symmetry once the branching pattern switches from opposite to alternate.

Ya, it's definitely not the same as if from a seedling.but it can still be somewhat accomplished.

What length are they? I assume 4'.

two footers sir doing two fixtures 12 strips each
If you plan on spacing them evenly, be sure to drill a few holes in between in case you need to adjust for growth ie. I have a 36 inch light but plants currently only take up 20 inches of space, you can move lights closers together until they out grow the 20 inches. Or you could always just make like 5 lights. Which becomes cheaper as you bulk buy.

I’m gonna be having a total of 24 holes on both frames I’ll be having them maxed out one day or later just needing them for veg /// so once I’m done with this full I’ll have 20 strips on both them so I’ll have a extra 4 holes on them for adjustability

Well it looks like I was premature in calling this thing complete. I decided I want to throw one of these on each side, and I think I know where a chunk of my Christmas bonus is going. Why the hell not? This addition will make the light totally crush the HPS. This company is awesome. I highly recommend looking into them as an alternative to HLG because their products fucking rock. They made the boards I have in this light.

That’s a decent deal if you wanna do more work, but I like how all I have to do with these is mount them and wire them up. This company is really good. They’re nice people who make cool products, and I like supporting a company like that. Plus if you see their shit in person is it extremely well made. Just super high quality all the way.

These bars also have the Cree XP-E 660nm diodes which is a nice touch. I think it will just be so easy to mount these to the side of my light. I’ll just need a couple angle brackets and some screws. I can have everything completely mounted and wired up and the light hung back up and running in an hour. Plus these lm310b chips are just fucking insane.

well for about each two foot bar im paying about $9.29 per bar heatsink/light not bad
