Not sure I will have to find out, it was cheap so prob not very high. I did not realise there were different ones lol

Just checked and its a 30w one

Yeah if it doesn't melt ....it's not hot enough, maybe it needs time to warm up completely? Or it's just not
powerful enough: )

it melts the solder it came with but did not touch the one one the pcb, i let it warm up for ages so i guess i best get a better one then lol

yeah get a 35/40w, or one you can regulate the power. I have issues myself desoldering with my 30w! It's not easy working on the PCB, diodes close one another and the circuit are delicate ... but you nly want to take the diodes off? you should manage. ElectroEnjoy yrself

Not sure if I want to reuse the pcb or not, but I think there lights have too much blue in so will try and adjust the pcb first and then make a new light after

HALLO RIU
here is an update of the ehm "troubled" girls:

IMG_20120710_132220.jpg

yeah I have overfed/salt build up issues; Due to me feeding too strong maybe from the beginning? And/or because of the coco blocks (so much cheaper)? .. didn't bother washing it.
I have now leached the medium during the last 4 days, no nutes ... ppm back to normal. Mind some people say it's bad to leach coco? Gotta get some canna flush next time and try that.

IMG_20120710_003711.jpgIMG_20120710_132056.jpgIMG_20120710_132037.jpgIMG_20120710_132030.jpgIMG_20120710_003816.jpgIMG_20120710_003810.jpg

Girls should be 2/3 times this size by now, there's things I have done wrong for sure. Wished I picked up my ppm pen since the beginning.

Anyway that is it, but guess what? I am going away for a few weeks! Girls will remain unattended in the hands of the Autopot system:

normally you hand feed til the roots are established, that takes one or two weeks when nicely growing ... I did that for 10ish days but the growth hasn't been good so I don't know if the roots are going to be sucking accordingly. The worst can happen during this few weeks ... or lucky enough to come back to a fairly ok situation. Poor lonely girls all by themselves! IMG_20120710_132427.jpg
bubbling tank is filled with a very low nute solution + epson salts (tap water), I am treating the girls as they are just recovering for the next few weeks.

Well let's wish the girls luck, they really need it!

Take care RIU
see you a bit later
Happy and safe growing to you all

Peace to the patients (by cocojoe)

thanks friendawg, am sure I would have worked it out BUT I am gone, all by themselves now :-P gotta love the health n safety with the LED's

Yeah Autopot are great, but only set the aquavalve today, so I wont be able to test their first run ... the valve opens up again once all the water is sucked (you should monitor their first go)... had no time had no roots ... what will happen we'll find out in two weeks :hug:take care you two, worst comes to the worst I expect you two to give me all your trimmings off yr grows, I'll make some mary-mini-pizza's right?

Hey jubiare, thanks for passing all this info along. You've piqued my interest to build my own LED panel, actually! I'd also like to compliment you on your own. Very well done.

I hope you guys don't mind if I throw a couple questions out in the open for you all, though.

First and foremost, build my own panel, or Kessil H350? That GrowersHouse sale seems pretty boss, and I could supplement an H350 Magenta with some CFL's and have a pretty strong, full cycle light source. Not to mention the Kessil is stupid proof (I can't fuck up plugging the thing in, right?), it comes with a warranty, it's very compact, can sell it off used on eBay if I want (whereas who would buy a DIY LED panel made by Joe Blow on the interwebs?), etc.

Assuming you still said, "Make your own"... If I was going to build my own panel I'd be looking to buy virtually everything from one place, and right now I'm looking at Digikey. That said, the 660nm Gold Dragon's aren't available from them (yet), at least afaik. What do you think of this model as a substitute? The 80 degree viewing angle sucks, imo, but the rest of the specs seem pretty spot on to me. They would be mated with the 625nm Dragon plus on a 450mA LED driver. Apart from that I've basically been following your lead with just a slightly higher blue/white:red ratio in mind than what you used -and no greens- in an attempt to get more even coverage of the higher frequencies.

Do you have any recommendations aside from the OSLON 660's? Another web seller who provides the 660nm Dragon Plus at a reasonable price? Maybe opt for a slightly shorter wavelength of red where there's better selection? <-- Not likely, I wouldn't think, the OSLON 660 is more efficient than their 645.

And last question. Why'd you buy those PCB stars?

It looks like this guy who was following knna as well just used some Kapton tape to insulate the LED gull wings from the heatsink, thermal epoxied the buggers on, and then wired it all up. That seems about as easy as it gets to me.

Any and all advice would be much appreciated.

Why not LedEngin 660? 5w LZ1

What's the point in adding pure greens to the mix? Isn't there enough in the white?

I think the Green's were an experiment, or a hunch of knna's that the OP was following, but I'm not sure. Never know until you try, I guess! Anyway, I think there would be enough Green in the Neutral and Cool White's if they had a larger portion of the ratio, sort of like you said, but then again I have zero LED experience and his choice of light seems to be working regardless. *shrugs*

I think I might try out stardustsailor's light ratio. He said he was using,
Warm White (3000K):Cool White (6500K):630nm:Neutral White (4500K)
12:6:4:2
at one point in his thread to good effect. I believe he's using Epistar LED's, but I can't confirm, haven't read the whole thread. Apart from this combination maybe being a little Blue dominant this seems like a very well balanced spectrum to me with a very high lm/w. Maybe make it 11:4:4:1?
