I needed a seed mat and happened to have one of those heating pads they sell for $15 to warm your bum when you get old.
Unfortunately, the controls on these pads dont give fine adjustment and some, like the one that I had have an auto shutoff which is fixed at one hour making it completely worthless.
Anyway, I cut out the switch/controler and wired it through an ordinairy $4 incandescent light dimmer.
You may find 3 wires coming from the pad. One of them is irrelevant. If you have a multimeter, just look for two wires with a few hundred ohms between them. Mine was 315. Otherwise a bit of trial and error will get it.
I find a pretty low setting keeps my seedlings and clones at about 90F
Right now I am using it for my homemade cloner. Note the thermometer to check the temp.
